100 percent of the teams in the NFL, NBA, and NHL have a legitimate chance to build a champion.Comment

Re: Countdown to Opening Day 2008!!!
50% is way too high as well. Who in the MLB doesn't have the chance to compete, besides TB? If you look at the teams that consistently struggle it's based more on incompetence in their organization or an unwillingness to spend.Comment

Re: Countdown to Opening Day 2008!!!
I was talking about the teams that have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs this season. But 50% is way too high as well if we're talking about teams that have a shot at making the playoffs within the next five years.Comment

I don't really have a problem with there being no salary cap, I have more of a problem with there not being a salary minimum. What the Marlins do, spending something like $15 million on their entire team, is ridiculous.Comment

Re: Countdown to Opening Day 2008!!!
Well, let's look at this. Who this year realistically has NO chance at making the playoffs?
Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Kansas City, Florida, Washington, Pittsburgh, San Francisco.
Am I missing any other teams? Everyone else at least has SOME semblance of possibly making a run. With Tampa's pitching, I'm not even sure I should be putting them on this list. That's 7 teams out of 32? That's not too bad in my opinion.
The NBA has 16 out of it's 30 teams make the playoffs. That's just awful. You have to try NOT to make the playoffs in the NBA (especially the East).
Football is the only game where you can literally turn it around in one year. Teams like the 2004 Panthers, etc. There are a couple of teams which are perennially awful (Cardinals, Lions) but even they are making some headway nowadays.
I don't know my point, but I do know that many teams compete in baseball.Comment

Re: Countdown to Opening Day 2008!!!
Most of those teams that aren't in contention are mainly due to the fault of ownership. Looking at the Marlins, Pirates, Royals, Orioles, Astros, Rangers, and Giants its mainly due to choices that the front office made in why they can't compete. The Marlins constantly trade away all their star players because Loria is too cheap to pay them. The Pirates and Royals have been riddled with bad ownership and haven't competed in a decade because of their incompetence. The Orioles and Nationals are going through rebuilding projects right now and the Astros and Giants have to begin soon because their front office decided to sign all overpriced veterans that are on the downswing.
As for the Rays, if you put them in a division like the NL West, AL West, or NL Central they could easily contend for a division title. It's just that they're stuck in the East and will constantly finish behind the Yankees and Sox.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

See this is what happens when the MLB opens the season in Japan. It gets 89 year old men very angry while they make a reference to Pearl Harbor.

Re: Countdown to Opening Day 2008!!!
Anyone else think the Sox/Dodgers series inside the LA Colusiem is going to be hilarious?
I mean really...Ortiz, Manny, Kent, Jones, etc...with a 200 foot fence?
Over under on homeruns in this series, with all of the big guys only getting an at-bat or two?Comment
