Unfortunately, he is... English is not his native language, so it's difficult for him to fully articulate himself in English... When they asked him a question in Spanish, he was far more coherent... I speak Spanish, so I understood every word he said, and it flowed a lot better than when he speaks in English... A testament to him, actually, seeing the heights he's risen to.

All I have to say it was wrong the way they did it, I just can't say really anything but I'm a shammed The Wilpons own my favorite team right now. Omar Minaya should have been let go too, he says he respects Willie, what a joke, Minaya is a bum, and I know he will be booed when they show his face back in NY.

What was Willie supposed to do, he has to start Tatis, Easely and Chavez, pretty much bench and role players because of Minaya's inablilty to garner a stable outfield to flank Beltran.

Alou - can't stay on the field, when he plays the mets win.
Nady - I would have kept Nady, Perez in my opinion is no where close to the value of Nady, an everyday player. They still have not found a setup man, right field is still vacant and Perez is so inconsistent. I never wanted to see Nady go for a short term goal that was not achieved.
Church - Good trade but he can't stay on the field.

        Minaya is overrated!

Bro..that's not q-u-i-t-e correct...dont feed into those who INSINUATE things...Minaya was born here...in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City.

like MANY whose parents are from someplace else, other than the U.S. (Italian, Polish,Pakistani, Dominican, German, etc.), the offspring, while mastering the English language, will still have their native accents--some stronger than the others.

He is TOTALLY fluent in English...he's been here so long, English technically, IS his native/primary language

According to the SI article that I read on him last year, he was born in the Dominican, and was brought here by his pops at a young age... I think Omar is comfortable expressing himself in English, he's just not polished in public oratory... If we were hanging out, fine. He seemed much more at ease with Spanish when a question was posed to him in that language...

On the other hand, I must say; that Jerry Manuel seems like one cool mutha.... The lone bright spot I've had today, sports-wise.

my bad...he started school at an early age here

I do agree, like some...including some Americans...speaking in public ain't his strong point...no argument there

Yes, he handled the pregunta en Espanol flawlessly...lol

Jerry Manuel is the cool assassin....folks are gonna sleep on him, but he'll have something for them...no worries there ^5

Just poorly handled situation all around by the Mets. Minaya is way more responsible for this mess than Willie is. The only ones that deserve to get canned in this organization are Minaya and whoever the team doctors are that let Church come back to play after he suffered a concussion.

Didn't take Reyes long to test Manuel's athority, eh?

I wouldn't make too much of it... Reyes looked like he wanted to stay in the game, and Jerry, I think, wanted to err on the side of caution... I don't think he (Reyes) should have thrown down his helmet like that, but they were seen later on in the game, and they were talking and it looked like Jerry was laying some words on him (in a calm and cool manner), and Jose was nodding his head like he understood. I don't know if SNY caught this (although I'm sure they were monitoring it heavily), since I was stuck with the Angels feed on mlb.tv.

"I actually asked him," Randolph said, "I said: 'Omar, do this now. If you're going to do this, do this now. I know you've got a lot of pressure on you, but if I'm not the guy to lead this team, then don't let me get on this plane.' I did say that to him."

                              Wanna Talk About Disrespect?

Then WHY are ALL of the hosts and too many callers...on WFAN...the Mets' flagship station, talking about who the next Mets manager should be?

Didn't Minaya make it clear, concise and to the point, that Jerry Manuel IS the Mets manager for the REST of 2008?
