Here's the MLB archives of it: http://mlb.mlb.com/media/player/mp_t...=4400&cls=true

Completely ridiculous. Runge instigated the whole thing.

        Straight bush league.

All of the people on ATH and both guys on PTI missed the point entirely, for those who saw it, basically saying that it was warranted because they were arguing balls and strikes... how the hell they got that one, I'll never know.

I figure Beltran said something to himself about how he thought it was a ball, getting ejected for a innocuous statement. Then I figure Manuel went out there to defend his player and see why he was thrown out where there wasn't any real reason to do so.

That's the way I see it.

Beltran was thrown out after Manuel. Manuel was going out there to protect Beltran from getting ejected. Oops!

The announcers got it right, there's no reason why Runge needed to take his mask off and engage Beltran on an offhand comment. Unless Beltran was confronting Runge about it then he should be tossed, but in this case it doesn't make sense.

The angle I saw, was that Beltran was kicking the dirt to get ready to get back in the box (I don't know what the exact strike count was) and then the ump made the ejection movement, which brought Manuel out.

Unless I missed something in the video that was shown on PTI/ATH...

As pointed out, the actual order of events shoots this particular theory down. But to even come up with the idea that trouble started because he "said something to himself"... you can't be serious.

Runge initiating contact was the only thing unusually noteworthy about this incident.

Wait wait wait... the angle I saw only had Beltran and the ump in the picture, and the ump was staring at Beltran when he made the ejection gesture... Am I severely missing something?

yes -Beltran, not looking at the ump, said basically the pitch was low .. then Runge took his mask off and basically stood in front of Carlos basically trying to bait him into an arguement - that's when Manuel came out and the whole mess started..

Beltran only got tossed after the manager did

And apparently Runge before the game last night apologized to Manuel about the incident

                              Yes. The quick rundown...

Beltran took a called strike (which many people believe actually was a strike), then did a bit of talking [following procedure when complaining about balls and strikes, he never turned directly back towards Runge to make it obvious what was happening].

Runge eventually did his part in this dance [if an ump has something to say to a complaining batter or catcher, wiping off imaginary dirt on the plate is how/when to do it].

Things escalated, especially after Manuel arrived. Runge bumped Manuel (which was the only thing unusual to this point).

                              Runge threw Manuel out.

After it looked like the game would resume normally, Beltran was thrown out while he was in the batter's box.
