Dont use the changeup, Ive given up 11 homers in 13 games and every single one came off a changeup. They seem to hit everyone.

Re: I\'m going to take this game back... The pitching blows
I've only given up two homeruns in a two game span... mix the change with the fast ball, sometimes use the breaking pitch (think carefully and pitch smartly). Right now, I'm trying to find the best fastball, offspeed, breaking ball, strikeout combination. I'm tired of having an average of 3 K's per game (my ace is the one that raises it up, everyone else has all the best pitches, but they can't get the K's).Comment

That's weird, because I get most of my strikeouts on a well-placed low-outside changeup.
Where are you throwing them?“In my lifetime, we've gone from Eisenhower to George W. Bush. We've gone from John F. Kennedy to Al Gore. If this is evolution, I believe that in twelve years, we'll be voting for plants.” - Lewis BlackComment

changeups away... that's how strike outs happen... of course you could gamble and challenge the hitter with a changeup by jamming him, or down the middle.Comment

That has to be the explination. BUT I am NOT grooving anything. I know baseball. I live baseball. I know exactly what should be done when pitching. I used the cold zones. I paint the corners. I swtich speeds. I change locations. I work the ladder, I break the sliders and curves out of the strike zone, I burn the head up in in. I move the oitching cursor after the pitcher begins his windup. I've busted the batters inside. Nothing seems to work for me. If you guys are so good, then please, give me some suggestions.
It's not like I'm some noob or some hack that can't play a sports game or doesn't know baseball. I play these games just like any of you do. On 2003 I worked my way to AllStar and pitched and hit very well with a challenge. I've played every ASB since 99 religiously. And I'd be willing to bet I know more about baseball then many on this board. But I simply cannot figure out how to hit. As I mentioned before I SHOULD be burning the batters on Rookie, but it isn't happening. The batters just hit everything. I've got one more day to return this. I'll try my best to pitch these bastards into the ground, but it isn't working.

Everything sounds good in that description. I don't know what to say. I am curious about one thing, though. What kind of defense are you using?
Neither last year nor this year have I ever played with the default setting; I immediately switch to Assisted defense... 95% of defense is pitching, and I don't want cheap hits falling in because the game gave me control of a player I didn't expect. On every batted ball, my players will start off headed in the right direction, until I'm sure of exactly which one I'm going to control. Then I take him over.
I assume the default setting hands over complete control of the selected fielder, right from the moment of contact, to the gamer. Is that what you're using? And, if so, are any of those 11+ hits per game of the cheap, 'should-have-been-an-out' variety?Comment

Re: I\'m going to take this game back... The pitching blows
How about not using rookie mode? Maybe the game gives up hits on both ends on rookie? I play on All Star and have had a few complete games and have had 2 and 3 hit shutouts. I've also had blow outs, both by me and against the CPU..that's what make this game so great, it varies from game to game. No two games feel alike! It sounds like you have the fundamentals down...for giggles, try increasing the difficulty...maybe you'll have better luck.

Re: I am not going to take this game back because of pitching...
Odd... I'm playing on rookie and I've been holding down the opposing team for a long time... I myself have been held down a couple of times.j
I'm not about to try vet or all-star unless I could get my power hitting polished. And until I find a consistant strikeout pattern.Comment

Re: I am not going to take this game back because of pitching...
Thanks for all the help guys... I'm still working on everything. I'm getting the hits down a bit... I've got my low down to 8, and probably average about 12 per game now. I use assist defense, and I try to set up my defense accordingly (shallow, deep, dp, etc...). I really don't know what the deal is though. I'm still working at it. I wish I could see someone good in action so I could see what I was doing wrong. Because I seem to be doing everything you guys are telling me to.
Oh, I've tried pitching patterns and I've tried adapting to the individual hitters... haven't had much success with either. Anyway, thanks again for the tips guys. I've got about 18 hours to decide whether I'm keeping this game or not... Hopefully I'll find a reason to keep it.Comment
