MVP is NOT a simulation and anyone who thinks it is does not know baseball. It is a game for CASUAL baseball fans who are more interested in FUN than realism. There are way too many hits, too many hits are line drives, too few strikeouts, and CPU batting is not realistic. It is just too easy to hit in MVP compared to the other baseball games, especially ASB 2004. None of the baseball games are a true simulation of baseball, but HH 2004 is the closest.

shouldn't simulation games be fun too? I don't care how exacting of a simulation game is, but if it isn't fun then why play? I don't want to spend my time doing something that's painful just cause it's a 'true sim'

Re: Mvp or Wsb.... Which is a better sim?

As I mentioned before in a sarcastic sense. I dont wanna have fun with a sports game. I want my sports games to be so real that I go 59-103 with the cubs. So real that I lose my star player for the season, I wanna feel so frustrated with my teams performance that I start yelling at the screen. I wanna have my ace pitcher get shelled to the point where I wanna trade him. I want my power hitter to go 0 for the month till I bench his ***. I want my 42 year old 1Bman to play like a 42 year old.

Those things are'nt sopposed to be fun, thats baseball. And thats what I want in my games.

But to answer the original posters question after playing MVP yesterday I realized that its close to a sim but not 100% sim. Sure you can have a 3 hit, 1 run game at any given time. Sure you can get 10 Ks with RJ, go 0 for the day and lose your best man to injury. But IMO the stratergy that is baseball is not there. The pitching thing is( and I hate to say this) a huge game killer for me. Not being able to warm up pitchers and the CPUs Pitcher getting yanked in the 6th inning with a 3 hitter going just sucks. I played 3 games yesterday and got maybe a total of 10 groundballs between me and the CPU.

Sure the game provides a nice challenge, but as someone mentioned earlier the game is based more on your skill than ratings. And I feel once you master hitting and pitching, you're unstopable..........until the CPU starts the infamous EA comeback logic. I have yet to see it in this game but I'm sure its there.

I feel that to be a great sim, its got to be more ratings based than player skill based and MVP is a player skills based game. I'm not knocking it but it cant even compare to HHs realism.

Then quit playing console games and get Ootp5 for your pc. Console games ARE supposed to be fun and will NEVER be a true sim. When you use a joystick, YOU make the stats, not the ratings of players, although they help.

Why waste your time playing if it was all stat driven? That's what text sims are for.

I guess I should bunt everytime with Rolen up to bat, but if the game was realistic, so to speak, 30 or so of those bunts should be for homeruns? I'm being sarcastic, but you get the picture.

I think this game has the most realistic looking and believeable hits I have ever seen in a joystick baseball game.
