Howard is hitting .321 with RISP, though. In those situations his OBP is .439

The only problem is that Cincy is still paying part of Dunn's salary and they basically got an A ball pitcher projected to be a #4/5 and two PTBNL's. I'd rather have the Type A compensation draft picks.

True, but they also both have a similar percentage of runs driven in w/RISP per AB and per PA, with Dunn's percentages being slightly higher than Howard. Both are terrible in late innings of close games driving in around only 10% of RISP in these situations.

This isn't meant to bash anyone, just to show that he does drive in runs with RISP just as much as other players even though he hits for a lower average than most players. He is actually over .300 against righties with RISP but is terrible against lefties which drops down his average a ton.

Anyway, good luck to Dunn and the Diamondbacks. Hopefully things will work out well for all teams involved. I will be pulling for him and them for the remainder of the season.

We already have another thread on the other stuff. We don't need to add to it.
That's why I wasn't going to say anything about his average because we have a whole thread devoted to it. He's a hot commodity on this board.

I guess they decided not to take the chance on getting draft picks depending on what kind of FA Dunn would get slotted. Whatever. I have no idea what to think about this team. Anybody want my tickets to the game on Saturday night against St. Louis? Well, maybe I'll hang onto them for now. Probably will be my last game for 2008.

I don't think striking out is going to be an issue on a team like the Diamondbacks.. I'm pretty sure there are guys that strike out even MORE than Dunn, with a lesser OBP as well. Mark Reynolds struck out like 10 straight times or something.. Chris Young strikes out a heck of a lot too.

I thought I read something somewhere that having those three guys gives them 3 of the top 5 strikeout hitters in at least the NL. It's pretty hot in Arizona this team of year I guess they felt the extra breeze was needed.

Actually Toronto is supposed to be an OBP/power based team but it crapped out. Interestingly since Cito has taken over the numbers are more or less the same but they do push across more runs in bunches then they did earlier in the year.

Maybe (gasp!) there's no real big difference between the philosophies?

I saw on the bottom line that the Reds will get Micah Owings in this deal also, which makes it a much more even trade.

but the odd thing is that he too has to clear waivers in order to go.. I really wonder what happens if someone claims him

I think a couple teams put a claim in on him. So, the reds will most likely have to wait until the end of the season to recieve him. I'm guessing he'll just be shut down for the rest of the year or what? Because I don't think the reds would want him to risk getting hurt, but they still might want him to pitch. Who knows, I guess we'll find out sooner or later.

The reason they didnt keep him until the end of the year and then get the draft picks for him is because he is still arbitration eligble.
A guy on sports talk explainted it last night. He said if the Reds would have kept him until the end of the year and not found a team to pay him what he wanted this off season, he could have filed arbitration with the Reds. He would have been awarded about 18-20 million in arbitration and the Reds did not want him for another year at that cost. He still has is eligble for arbitration for one more year if he would have stayed with the Reds, they didnt want to risk him filing.
