NOPE SORRY WSB2k3 has best franchise ASB2004 rips off last years wsb which this years wsb2k3 is even better.

The number of game modes is nice and hefty. The franchise mode is stuffed with features and a handy ASB Rulebook that acts as a clearinghouse of baseball info you may need as you navigate your team through multiple major league seasons. Like we saw in last year's World Series Baseball you can change the market conditions your version of Major League Baseball will operate under, play with or without a trade deadline, injuries and trades

This is one of the most ignorant posts I've ever read on a forum lol. It's amazing how much people think others take comments like this into account when they are deciding on a game. Somehow ASB rips off WSB's franchise features, yet WSB doesn't have all of the features of ASB. Unbelievable.

All-Star Baseball has always had a problem with collision detection and giving gamers that generally solid feel for how baseball is played. Moving your fielders into position you'll alternately make plays on hit balls that you don't think you should have made along with missing balls that you thought would be simple. All of this because the game engine seems to be designed in such a way that the players aren't really on the same baseball field as the ball. Like they're in parallel planes of existence that aren't quite in synch and so the interaction between players and baseballs is just slightly off. This is probably why we never saw Morpheus and Neo playing baseball in The Matrix. Throw in some genuine A.I. shortcomings such as the one where you'll automatically be given control of an outfielder as a fly ball is coming down, yet another CPU controlled player ends up making the play because he's the one you should've been controlling in the first place. The whole thing, the part where you're playing baseball, just ends up feeling messy

Well spoken and much more coherent than "Best game hands down!"

                  ....but still all fanboy.

The problem with the collision is simply a fielding animation issue. In most sports games the cpu determines a certain range or imaginary distance around the player in which he can interact with the ball. Pull out any football game and replay a catch. 9 out of 10 times the players hand doesnt adjust to exactly where the ball is. The ball usually hits him in the wrist or forearm and the cpu quickly slides it to his hand. The CPU determines a range in which the player SHOULD catch the ball because precise ball to hand interaction is virtually impossble. The day that developers can mimic the complete range of human motion is the day computers take over the planet (via the matrix you mentioned)
When YOU are controlling the outfielder it is nearly impossible for the cpu to magically ALWAYS pull out just the right animation for the glove to go to exactly where the ball is. So LIKE ALL GAMES, ASB determines a range around the fielder that should realistically result in a catch, determines the most appropriate animation and BAM he makes the play. Sometimes it aint' pretty but hell, that is the nature of the video-beast.
Some games *cough* HH *cough* don't even have enough animations to go around so you can be rewarded a catch and not even be facing the right direction ( I love ***-cheek catches ), yet most reviewers who blast the vacuum turn right around and hype HH as the best fielding game.

So collision isn't the problem and animations are for the most part merely cosmetic. "Does this game allow me to REACH the ball in a reasonably realistic manner?" is the only question that matters. Now WSB is fantastic but one of the main reasons it rests on my table and not my CD tray is because the outfielders while beautifully rendered seem to be too big for the field. In the 2 days I played it I never saw a fly that made me say "[censored]! I gotta' get on my horse to shag that mofo!" I always casually ran to it and almost always got to it. The field just did not feel big enough. The next time you go down to your local wings and beer spot check out an aerial view of the local ballpark (every respectable wingspot has local ballpark shots on the wall) The players look friggin' tiny! It really lets you see how much ground there is to cover. ASB portrays this. WSB does not.

Awesome collision is hitting one out in Yankee stadium and watching the ball "collide" around between the monuments.
