If you could choose your team's moves this offseason what would you do?

I saw this on the MLB boards and thought it was a great idea. I'll start.

    Cardinals
    1. I would resign Felipe Lopez i like this guy and he has a good bat as he went on a tear after joining the team. Have him play short.
    2. Just get a left-handed relief pitcher hopefully Fuentes and have him split closing with Chris Perez. Also resign Looper.
    3. Get either Orlando Hudson or Brian Roberts they are pretty close in ability but i like Roberts. Play him at second.
    4. Get a low budget 5th starter. Maybe a number 2 considering Loshe kinda fell apart at the end of the season. With all the injuries we need one. If Cubs don't resign him Ryan Dempster we have the money so make it happen Mozeliak. If we can do this i think we can make the playoffs next year.

    1.Schumaker
    2.Lopez/Ankiel/Ludwick
    3.Pujols
    4.Ludwick/Ankiel/Glaus
    5.Glaus/Ankiel
    6.Ankiel/Glaus
    7.Molina
    8.Pitcher
    9.Roberts/Miles

    1.Wainwright
    2.Loshe
    3.Carpenter
    4.Wellemeyer
    5.Looper/Pineiro

    Fuentes/Perez closing.

    1. Extend Nick Markakis
    2. Sign Mark Teixiera and A.J. Burnett
    3. Trade for a shortstop...Jason Donald from the Phillies would be ideal
    4. Extend Brian Roberts, and if you can't, trade him.
    5. Sign a backend rotation starter
    6. Trade Ramon Hernandez and let Matt Wieters start the year as the starting catcher

      1. Try and sign Sabathia and Teixeira.
      2. Offer Abreu arbitration. If he accepts it he'll be fine for a year, if not let him walk and get a 1st round pick from whoever signs him.
      3. Resign Pettitte and Mussina if he decides to return.
      4. Try and work a trade with the Giants with the base of it being Cano for Cain.
      5. Sign Orlando Hudson.

        1. Offer a truckload of money to K-Rod (Dumbrowski already said he won't though).
        2. Offer a truckload of money to Sabathia (see above).
        3. Dangle a pack of smokes on a fishing pole over a cliff and have Leyland lunge for them.

          1. re-sign Burnett. If that's not possible then use the money on a good hitting DH type. I'd take a flier on Griffey personally but probably would be content with Raul Ibanez

          2. Try to get Furcal and lock him up to a 4 yr deal.

          3. Dangle Rios for a frontline starter. I know there are GMs out there that would be willing to make that kind of trade.

            -- relief pitchers

            -- more relief pitchers

-- a ton of relief pitchers

Seriously - need to address the pen, second base, and maybe a LF...

Smart move by Dombrowski then. Whoever overpays for K-Rod will be in the running for worst offseason signing of the year.

After seeing Derek Lowe letting his emotions get the better of him during this postseason i'd be a bit hesitant on approaching him. That's not to say I wouldn't give him an offer but I wouldn't break the bank for his services.

Also what the heck do you mean about profit? The Jays have turned a profit the last 3-4 years now.

Sign Teixeira and Manny Ramirez. Go as short as we possibly can on the deals, even if we have to pay more per year. Pass on C.C. Sabathia, sign Ben Sheets. Let Abreu, Giambi, Ivan Rodriguez walk. Let Pettitte walk, resign Mussina for a two year deal. Don't trade Cano to fill the CF spot; much harder to find a offensively decent second baseman than a outfielder that can man center. Let Melky and Gardner fight it out for a chance to win the job in spring training. If it's not possible then you stick Damon in center for another year. Take Marte's option. Let Hughes and some other options fight it out for the 5th rotation spot.

                            C: Posada
                            1B: Teixeira

Guess I'll be the different Yankees fan.

                              1. Don't sign Tex. Don't pick up Giambi's option and instead negotiate a deal similar to the one they handed Mussina two seasons ago.

                              2. Don't sign Sabathia, or better yet, don't waste your time. He's not coming to NY.

                              3. Make every effort to bring Jake Peavy to NY, even if it means giving up both Hughes and Kennedy along with another minor league pitcher and giving Peavy a significant salary increase.

                              4. Resign Andy Pettitte, but at a significantly lower cost.

                              5. Resign Mike Mussina at a significantly lower cost, if possible.

                              6. Don't pick up Abreu's option. Don't even breathe Manny's name. Instead, go after a big left-handed, middle-order hitter like Adam Dunn. Move Dunn to left field and move Nady to right.

                              7. Make every effort to sign A.J. Burnett.

                              8. Make every effort to sign Ben Sheets.

                              9. Try to find a trade partner for Matsui.

                              10. Look to sign Mike Cameron to play center if you can find a trade partner for Matsui, and have trouble bringing in an outfielder that would force Damon to play center.
