But, that $400 MM is being spread out over 8 years. That makes it more financially possible to payout. I can't see the Yankees being able to afford $800 MM for a stadium in one year.

Then again, I asked because I don't know how that works out. If it were something that was spread out over 20 years then they should have no issues.
Its pretty much all done through bonds with the government. The Yankees will owe taxes on half of it and interest as well, though I don't know if the details of these bonds are available. As in, how much interest do the Yankees have to pay back for these loans, if any, or if they'll just be taxed on half of it. The Yankees will likely make a monthly payment for many years so no, they won't pay out 800 million up front.

And no, the Yankees truly had no leverage in this scenario. The team would never move out of the city for the fan outrage would be enormous. They also, if forced to, could afford a new stadium without public funding. If the Patriots can afford to do it, I'm sure the Yankees can. I don't be-grudge them for looking into getting a little help from the local government, but to throw money around at players and repeatedly go back to the city during these economic times for more public financing is more than tactless.

The system is so broken right now.

When only the Tigers and Yankees are paying the luxury tax, you know something is wrong.

I don't mind the uncapped salaries so much, but please, 2 teams out of 32 paying the tax, the MLB might as well just scrap the luxury tax because basically all of it is coming out from the Yankees. The Tigers only pay something like ~$2M in taxes with a 160MM payroll. That's ridiculous.

Teams that want to spend needs to be hit hard. Anything >100MM should be taxed dollar-for-dollar and anything >150M 2-for-1.

Unfortunately this isn't going to be solved overnight. If MLB ever gets a cap, the players would've went on strike and a season would be scrapped. I don't think that'll happen for a long time.

Everyone is arguing for that now. But when the season starts, all that crap disappears and then we just get down to playing the games. If the Yankees win, everyone will cry for a cap. If they don't win, everyone will say the system is fine. There's no winning. Nothing is going to change. It's baseball, remember? They waited until this year to finally put in a form of replay.

Due to the deficit we will have to cut down on services meaning some of my co-workers will not have jobs @ the end of this budget cycle (June 09) but the reality is Wall Street/Stock Market is really the main cause of the budget cuts thru-out the state. Could collecting taxes on these stadiums help with the budget deficit. Yes, but more than likely we would still be in a deficit & services would still have to be cut.

Personally I think people would've been more pissed (including myself) if the city fully financed the stadium for both the Yanks & Mets. As for the Yankee spending as a Yanks fan I have no problem with it because they are putting the $ they make back into the team.

No matter what thought M.K. I hope WE make it thru these tough times & NYC comes together to help ease the burden we are facing now & in the coming years..

Tex is an awesome player but he's been shuffled thru a lot of teams the past 2 years - Texas, Atlanta, LAA and finally NYY. I understand Boras is the driving force but I think his character might be lacking a bit...I lost a lot of respect for him after his less than classy departure from Atlanta.

Teixeira was traded for reasons similar to most; those teams took advantage of his quality bat to either win a division or collect prospects.

I watched nearly every single Braves telecast I could this past year. When Teixeira left for the angles, they did an interview with him right when he got to LA clubhouse and he was throwing off his former teammates....As I said, he's a wonderful player but seeing him play pretty much a full season's worth in Atlanta, he just didn't seem like a team player to me.

I can't wait to see him in Pinstripes. A switch hitting, consistent, hitter with more pop then a coke can and a gold glover and the most important quality of any (Yankee) "Clutch"

lol...clutch? I didn't think Tex was particularly clutch. He doesn't step up his game when it counts and isn't known as "the one guy you want up" when it counts. Still, he doesn't drop off much from his normal play, so he's clearly not a scrub in the clutch either.

In the end, I guess it doesn't matter. He's an excellent player and should help the Yankees out quite a bit (obviously). From what I understand he just didn't want to play for or live in Boston under any circumstances which worked out well for the Yankees. We'll see how it works out.
