Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
To be fair, the Red Sox probably could've spent 423 million dollars this off-season. Fenway has some of the most expensive seats in the league and sells out every game, so they have plenty of money (though, YES brings in a lot of revenue for the Yankees and I don't know how much, if significant at all, the Sox make from NESN) they just aren't as free with their spending as the Yankees.Comment

Maybe. Maybe not. From what I understand they are tightening their belts some due to some other investments.
Again, I don't blame the Yankees. They are a product of a poorly run league/organization. They have an unfair competitive advantage, and nothing will ever be done about it.
Only their own ineptitiude has kept them from completely dominating the game.
This bares the question. Is this kind of inequity good for the game?Comment

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
Whoa, whoa whoa...the 2004 Red Sox bought the World Series win?
With who? They signed Foulke that season, yes, but everyone else was either traded for (Schilling and Cabrera) or was on their roster, or a cheaper pick-up. Terrible, terrible example...or maybe I'm just completely missing something.
And no, there wouldn't be as much animosity towards Boston or LA because neither of those teams spent an extra 220 million plus on two other players this off-season.
My point is that team don't win titles with homegrown players anymore, they make acquisitions and sometimes they overpay for them, so that argument, in my eyes doesn't hold water. Oh and the Red Soxs increased their salary from 03 to 04 by 27 millions, obviously it was well spent.Comment

But, it is ok within the rules of baseball. The Yankees can spend all they want, but the notion that having a 150 million dollar payroll is far too low is just absurd.Comment

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
I hate that argument, it's silly. That argument assumes that it's ok for the Yankees to have a 200 million dollar payroll. After losing a third of their payroll it just brought them down to around the number 2 payroll in baseball.

The Yankees may have an astronomical payroll, but is it around the same percentage of their annual overall income from attendance revenue, YES Network, merchandise, etc. as the Milwaukee Brewers?
It may not be fair, but that onus is on MLB and not on the New York Yankees.Comment

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
who cares what their payroll is, it's not like the yankees have 100 championships, and it's not like other teams can't spend money, what is ruining baseball is owners like the padres owner or selig not letting cuban buy the cubs that's bad for baseballComment

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx
Absolutely. They are the symptom of a much larger problem. Baseball itself is the root cause.Comment

We get it, the Yankees can spend more money than everyone else, and it's unfair.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

This is pathetic. The Yankees have all these good players and their still going to lose. These players could go to better use of they were on other teams. My latest project - Madden 12 http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043231648Comment
