And let me get this straight, I don't blame the Yankees. They are the product of what is a horribly run league and organization.

They are the poster children for all that's wrong with baseball, but they are not the root cause imo.

Yea, with Hughes it had nothing to do with him dominating the minor leagues at a very young age, or throwing 2 plus plus pitches with a 3rd that showed a lot of potential. All the other teams that demanded him in just about every trade didn't care about any of that, they just cared that he pitched for the Yankees.

Kennedy also put up great numbers in the minor leagues, but no one ever even hyped him up as more than a back of the rotation starter, maybe a #3 at best.

I don't know if they'll work out, but if they don't it's not because they were overhyped, it's because sometimes prospects don't work out.

Being a Jets fan needless to say my week started off on a very bad foot but thank you god for making me a Yankee fan...

Greatest offseason of all time, now lets get number 27...

While I like the signing, boy am I livid at the pricetag.

In this day and age, with the way our economy is and how families are losing their houses, the Yankees have the brass to spend that much money on one individual? It's their money, and they can do with it as they please, but come on. No human being is worth that much money, and to play a game at that.

I can't stand the way this team spends money. They've got around $50million a year wrapped up between two people. Two people.

The 26 titles means they do business better than anyone argument, in todays world carries no weight.
And a good portion of those titles came before there was a draft. When any kid with talent just wanted to make it big in New York. A lot of the team's success throughout history is centered on the fact that the team is located in New York. Other sports have implemented things in order to take away from that advantage but baseball really hasn't. The luxury tax threshold goes up every year and will continue to do so. And clearly if a team is willing to spend over 20 million just off of that it isn't working. That team had a $222 million dollar payroll last year, the next closest team wasn't even within 60 million.

I don't begrudge the Yankees for spending. I think this winter they've spent pretty ridiculously (Burnett) but the team has the resources and capabilities to absorb bad contracts if things don't work out. The problem is with baseball and it will never go away without a strike. That's the sad truth of the matter. Selig doesn't like it, but he and the owners are making too much money to do anything. And as a Sox fan I can't be pissed that the guy my team was gunning for went to New York. The Sox could have gotten it done last week in Texas but deemed the price too high. Whether the team really felt that way or not and the whole "We aren't going to be a factor" was just a ploy is up for debate. I expected this the whole time so I'm not surprised, I'm just surprised at how no sports reporters seemed to consider it a realistic possibility.

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx

All of this animosity is simply because he went to the Yankees, I doubt we would of heard this if he went Boston or LA.

And the whole thing about of buying a WS is nothing new, the Marlins in 1997 did, the '04 Red Sox's did it. And many others have tried as well and failed.

BTW I wish the Cubs would do something like this though, who have a reasonable amount of resources at their disposal.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

Re: Tex goes to the Bronx

Whoa, whoa whoa...the 2004 Red Sox bought the World Series win?

With who? They signed Foulke that season, yes, but everyone else was either traded for (Schilling and Cabrera) or was on their roster, or a cheaper pick-up. Terrible, terrible example...or maybe I'm just completely missing something.

And no, there wouldn't be as much animosity towards Boston or LA because neither of those teams spent an extra 220 million plus on two other players this off-season.

You forgot to mention that the Yankees as late as 2 weeks ago asked for public money for their stadium.

The teams requested the additional financing in applications filed with the city ahead of a public hearing on the funding next month. The applications have not yet been made public, but the city shared details in response to questions from The Associated Press.
In the Yankees’ application, the team is asking for another $259 million in tax-exempt bonds and $111 million in taxable bonds, on top of $940 million in tax-exempt bonds and $25 million in taxable bonds already granted for its $1.3 billion stadium.

Oh, I'm not one of the ones complaining about how much money the Yankees are spending. They have the money, they might as well have spent it. The Sox could've given Tex the same contract and it would've been just as absurd, but they chose not to, so I really can't be mad at the amount spent.

Just saying that people wouldn't care if Boston or either LA team spent this kind of money because all people are thinking about is the fact that the Yankees just spent 220 million on two players and are now throwing another 180 at another player. That's all.
