The "deal" with Andruw Jones-would you take him?

Heres the deal, andruw has the capability to be an all star again. He can hit and he can be the athelte he once was. Problem with that is hes fat, out of shape, and really has a confidence issue. All this said I would take a chance on him. Just becasue of what could be there. Of course there needs to be strings attached. I would get that dude on an intensive program to shed a ton of weight. I would rather him be the vaccum at CF with a good bat than an OK fielder who can hit for power but strikes out more than anything. I would say for the mariners to pick him up and use him as a DH until he can get back into his old form. Wakamatsu is a good hitting coach so he could work with him. I dont think hes wasted talent though. Just me but I always see more in players than is actually there. What are yall's thoughts?

Sorry, but from the Mariners standpoint its a horrible horrible idea. First off, an intensive program is good only if he wants to improve, which obviously he hasn't wanted to get better or he'd have get his butt in gear.

Secondly, we need a left handed hitter.

Thirdly, he is an incredibly lazy player and on a young, growing team its the worst thing the organization could possibly do.

True, if all that money and the fact he had a terrible year in LA didnt motivate him to do something different with his fitness then there probably isnt anything anyone can do to motivate him. Maybe a year not playing would help him realize the only reason hes not the ebst anymore is becasue he is letting it happen. LAY OFF THE DOUBLE QUARTER POUNDERS ANDRUW. We all would like to see the andruw jones of old.

With how idiotic Atlanta's GM Frank Wren is, I wouldn't be surprised if Andruw is brought back. I'll always have a lot of respect for him as he had the most amazing jumps on balls in CF...His best year was IMO was 2002, when he hit .306, had 36hrs and 100 RBIs; I guess he got homer happy and it went downhill

If he can actually lose weight - which I know would be a shocker itself - and get down to a 225lbs playing weight he would have a possibility of an actual productive year

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

After seeing Andruw working out with Chipper and McCann, that's the thinnest I've seen him in 5 years. I want him back in Atlanta for a low $ amount.

For a league-minimum type deal, absolutely. As stated above, he looked in pretty good shape working out recently... not like the Braves OF is anything to write home about as it is, anyway.

His deal with the Dodgers restricts him from making over $1 million/year with anyone else. Someone will take a flier with him...most likely a minor league deal.

If i am the Braves or even the Cincinnati Reds i would sign him and move him to LF. For 1 year at $400,000. (the same money they would pay a minor leaguer to play) Andruw could be the ultimate low risk/high reward signing of the offseason.

HEHE HoHo...I love that marino. Good riddance being because he stunk it up in LA and you are a dodger fan? I felt the pain too as he was initially on my fantasy team. But I tell ya, if he gets motivated in the right direction and gets back on track, he will again be dangerous which is why I would pick him up...for a low $ amount of course.

I haven't seen anything about is workouts just that he's recently been released and videos of his days in LA where looked like a ballpark frank. On estimate, what weight does he look?

I want no part of Andruw. He doesn't listen to batting coaches. He doesn't care about getting better. Has said on 790 The Zone on the radio that he doesn't want a minor league deal. Stuckout 7 times in 13 at-bats against RHP in winter ball. Is not the same fielder he was 3 years ago. His arm is dead and he can't get to the same balls he used to. In fact he shouldn't be playing CF period IMO. He should be in LF.

Yea, thats too bad. He will turn it around. Dont know if hes gonna wait until he has hit rock bottom or not but eventually he will wake up. If not...what a waste of talent. He was the best thing in center field IMO. Loved the combo of him and chipper. Sucks now
