Thought ESPN Sunday Night games couldn't get any worse?
Think again.
One of the longest-running acts in TV sports is getting a new cast member. ESPN will formally announce Wednesday that Steve Phillips will join Jon Miller and Joe Morgan, who’ve called ESPN’s Sunday night baseball for 19 years.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationTags: None -

Oh, wow. Who's working the MLB Network games? That might be my last hope there."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Glad TV's have mute, and radios still work!Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Un****ingbelievable.
Nevermind, it's BSPN, it's completely believable.
I can't even properly put into words how ridiculous this is, as if Morgan's uneducated blathering (not to mention dragging Miller's otherwise quality PBP down with him) wasn't painful enough on its own, adding Phillips' inanity has the makings of a perfect storm of broadcasting ineptitude.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Maybe it won't be that bad. He's apparently just filling the "on-field reporter" role that Gammons had. It means it'll be less talking by him overalland no more post game stuff from him either. It actually sounds like an upgrade overall.
...that is, as long as they don't cut to him too much...lol

But any talking by Steve Phillips is still too much talking by Steve PhillipsComment

Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll jump ship to Fox. Then Joe buck can drool over the hot story while Tim and Steve take turns confusing eachother with their babbling...lol.
Joe: "What an amazing game this is guys."
Tim: "In my mind, amazing is what the Mets are nicknamed."
Steve: "I used to be their GM...got to a WS too...anyone hiring?"
Tim: "In my mind, I was at that world series."
Steve: "It's a proven fact that to get there you need strong leadership from a good GM...a consistent GM...a GM named Steve"...
Joe: "Great points guys...simpy amazing."
Tim and Steve: "Where are we?"
lol...sorryComment

great points...but if they could manage to take Joe Morgan with them they would have a dream team...
"Well in my day (follow with any ridiculous statement that only makes sense to himelf about the "old days")"
That would finally make Fox coverage totally unwatchable.Comment
