Re: Why I Hate the Cardinals.

I think the general point is though, why do you care if SOME Cardinals fans call themselves the best? Players from various teams say "Man, we've got the best fans! I'm so greatful to be playing in ________(fill in the blank)."

It's a statement of pride. some share it, some don't. I just don't see being bugged by it. As I said (and you said...and others said...lol) there are plenty of cities with great fans, so if SOME Cardinals fans want to hype themselves up in that way. Let em...doesn't make it any more true

For the record too, I HAVE heard Cubs fans refer to themselves as the best AND "most loyal" fans in baseball. That is of course, as opinion based as Cardninals fans saying it.

The truth is the only "real" fans out there that are perfect, loyal, and deserving of praise, are Red Sox fans. We're clearly the best and it can't be disputed. Why? Because I just said so...lol

    ...okay...j/k on the last part

Oh, and how could I forget. Tom Glavin got his 300th win against the Cubs. When he came out of the game in the 7th he left to a standing ovation at Wrigley. The game was still very much so winnable at that point for the Cubs.

I guess it bugs me becuase, like I said, all of my wifes friends are Cardinals fans and I have to hear it all of the time. The thing about it that really irks me is the fact that most of them (but not all) are the type of fans that would not watch an entire game on TV. They are more casual fans than anything but they act like they are die-hard fans. Like I said before I also have a good friend that is an avid Cardinals fan that knows the game and can actually talk baseball rather than resorting to stupid crap like "Cubs suck" and "1908". If every Cardinals fans was like he was they I would agree St. Louis had the best fans in baseball.

If a "fan" can't tell you who his/her team is playing on any given day or who is pitching they are usually the type of fan that makes ridiculous comments. And this is the case with many of the Cardinals fans that I know.

I GUARANTEE he will get a warm welcome. No doubt in my mind. Cardinal fans thank the players for what they did for the team, no matter how small of a part they played.

With that said, my outlook on the majority of Cardinal fans is declining more and more each season. Maybe its because I don't get to go to as many games now as compared to when I was younger, or if its the expansion that is taking place in the suburbs of St. Louis (with the "new money" people coming in), or even the fact that my baseball knowledge has increased over the last few years. But to me, many Cardinal fans don't seem to be as intelligent anymore.

But I just have to laugh at some of you guys on here, especially the Cubs fans. Who cares what people think? The fact of the matter is, everyone is going to think that their team's fans are the greatest. What difference does it make? Its not like the team with the best fans has home field advantage in the playoffs or starts a playoff series with a 2 game lead.

The Cubs are our rivals, that's why you will get the "Cubs suck" banter. Same as I get the "Cards suck" banter when I go to Chi-town. It's nothing against you personally, it's really just teasing.

I hate the casual fans too. Like yesterday, I had a Super Bowl party. Everyone knew who they wanted to win. Everybody cheered. The problem was was that the 3 people in my house hold that were rooting for the Steelers, were people that had not watched a whole game, the whole season. How did I know this? Because they kept throwing in my face that "Ben Rothleisberger (sp) is untouchable and never ever gets sacked." (Even though he has been sacked the most times [192!] in the past 4 years, an NFL record). That is what pisses me off. They casual fans that think they know everything.

I agree with both but I highlighted the bold because this is true. I hate when I'm at a Cardinal game and a group of fans sitting behind me starting talking BS about who this is and how this person is doing. I have literally gotten into an argument with a gentlemen who insisted that Juan Encarnacion came up with the Florida Marlins when actually he came up with the Tigers.

I guess its simply because I've never heard a fan of any other team say that his team had the best fans in baseball other than Cardinals fans. I'm am fanatical about the Cubs but I would never argue to anyone that Cubs fans are the best in baseball. Are they good, sure. But no better than any other loyal fan of any other team.

And I will say this. I have gone to a few Cubs/Cards games by myself (my wife was out w/friends) and those were probably the most enjoyable games I've ever been at. I talked with Cardinals fans around me and we poked fun at one another but were not being obnoxious. At the end of the day the Cubs won, the guy behind me said good game and gave me a high five and I walked out. Then on my way out some drunk girl kept screaming "1908" and I thought to myself, well that's typical. Its simply frustrating that the obnoxious fans are the one's that think a 6-4-3 double play is a scratch-off lotery ticket. They are the type of fans that would not be caught dead wearing they're "teams" shirt if they were in last place.

I have never minded a Cardinals fan that actually knows what he is talking about. That knows not only about his team but other teams. That knows baseball. Because these are the type of fans that you can actually have somewhat intelligent conversations with at a ball game.

Well, keep in mind that you guys are still seeing the results of a World Series win. Fair-weather fans usually stay around for a good 3-5 years after a championship. And there is nothing I hate worse than a fair weather fan. Heck, the Cubs had the worst fair-weather fans I've ever seen in 2003. The year everyone thought we were going to the World Series. Well, they quickly disappeared. I asking fair-weather fans questions about their team that they can't answer and most of the time they are very simple. I remeber me and a friend that claims to be a Cardinals fan sitting at Busch Stadium before the game. He was giving me crap about the Cubs so I proceeded to ask him who was playing right field that day. He had no idea. I asked him about second base, again, no idea. After a few more simple questions he quit with the bantering.

Did you boo him the next three times he came to the plate like everyone else did? (I was at the game, too) You guys should have given him a standing ovation because he struck out three times.

I honestly do. I haven't seen one former Cardinal get booed in the years that I have been alive. But you'll have to refresh my memory, what exactly did he say?

"Now I’m ready to be a Cubbie and play the game the right way and show St. Louis that they let somebody go that maybe they shouldn’t have.”

Of course this was blown WAY out of proportion by the media. They neglect to mention that he also said good things about playing in St. Louis. But people only remember things like this, which again isn't really that bad as people make it out to be. I guess the part where he says he is ready to "play the game the right way" somehow implies that St. Louis was doing something wrong. Again, it will be interesting to see how he is received.

I'm just messing around with you. I would expect you to clap after an out, no matter who it was. I was just pointing out the fact that Cardinals fans like to take credit for giving Jimmy a standing ovation but they never mention the fact that they booed him in his next three at bats. You obviously are a true St. Louis fan, since you are sporting the Blues avatar. And that is very respectable.
