Re: Bonds Test Positive
I have heard of alot of this...and the vast majority can be tracked to pain medicine for the NFL guys as well as PCS.
Bodybuilders I admit are out of control with the amount of steroids and roid rage is real. However, I said "under a doctors supervision" The problem isnt steroids...its steroid abuse. Some peeps die from alchol...others use it no problem...the difference is the abuse component. Hell, i can say the same thing about food. Some people eat no problem...other people dont know when to stop and it causes health problems. When you use steroids properly...just like food...it has good effects. To lump all steroid users together is not fair.
Furthermore...I have a problem when we use the word "epidemic" it impacts a small portion of the population. We all can probably point to someone we know who has been impacted by alcohol or drug use. Most people cannot point to someone they know who has been impacted by steroid abuse. I think the majority of Americans dont even know people who take steroids
I think a lot of people are misinformed when it comes to steroids. The fact of the matter is, steroids aren't as dangerous as perceived by the public. Tobacco and Alcohol are way more dangerous and kill thousands of people a year. Find me one study linking steroids to a death.
Everything has a side effect. Vitamins, peanuts, McDonalds, ect. The side effects of steroids are over exaggerated, especially that of roid rage. There are lots of steroid users that are now in their 70's and just fine.
Here is a video that has actual medical studies that back up my points. It might open up a few eyes.

Re: Bonds Test Positive
...and I never said that roids has reached epidemic proportions. Quite simply put, much like you..... there are a lot of guys out there who juice and know what they are doing 100%, will they develop various cancers, or failed livers becuase of them? who knows.... I know, like you, that they run rampant in certain sectors, like most drugs.
Quite simply from my point of view, knowing that high schoolers are using the stuff and have no f'ing idea what they are doing is just freaking sad.Comment

Its pretty clear you are thinking of steroids in a medicinal purpose but when people inject themselves for the sole purpose of athletic gain it IS dangerous. The amount they use and the length of time they use play a large part in how much their health will be effected later.
Taking steroids for rehab purposes is fine and they help to rebuild muscles after surgery.. Quite often used to strengthen knees and even use to combat muscle diseases. ect.. But the difference between medicinal purpose and athletic purpose is very very different.Comment

Re: Bonds Test Positive
Of course Tobacco and Alcohol kill more people every year.. MORE PEOPLE USE THEM! Horrible comparison.

Lots of people use them and are fine. I'm not condoning their use, I'm just giving another side to the argument.

Re: Bonds Test Positive
I dont use steroids. Also...with all the other drugs teens are using...steroids is the LEAST scary. Truth is that kids taking roid usually have goals and are willing to do hard work. That isnt a bad thing. Being over obsessed with body image is a bigger problem imo
Is roids scarier than say meth? no. Kids that are on roids but still work out hard but dont understand roids - IS a bad thing so I respectfully disagree. That is the bad thing about roids -not knowing what you are doing.
Hypothetical ;If you had a 15 yr old son... would you mind if he was taking roids, not knowing the right way to use them? if it was just he and his buddy on them "because they have a goal?, or want to work hard?".... would you be concerned or would you encourage it? Roids take the hard work needed out of the equation...
Being obsessed over a body image is more of an issue than abusing steroids? just confused with what image is a larger problem than....Last edited by arichzona; 02-09-2009, 01:30 PM.Comment

Re: Bonds Test Positive
This will be very interesting.
Prosecutors also said they plan to call Jason Giambi of the Oakland A's and six other former baseball players: Jason's brother Jeremy Giambi, Benito Santiago, Armando Rios, Randy Velarde, Bobby Estalella and Marvin Benard.
They said Estalella will testify Bonds told him he was using performance-enhancing drugs.Comment
