Ken Griffey Jr. Returns to Seattle
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik would neither confirm or deny that a deal is imminent, saying, "I do not comment on free agents." The deal would not be finalized until Griffey passes a physical, which is expected to occur in the Phoenix area.

Re: Griffey near return to Mariners
Looking at it with no homer blinders on, it's a decent move. I'd rather them go after Nick Swisher.
Looking at it with blinders - MAKE IT HAPPEN JACK Z!!
I would be first in line to get opening day tickets. Seeing The Kid return for his first game back in an M's uni might seriously bring a tear to my eye. -

LOW. BLOW.
Its a fine move for Seattle. 1 year on the cheap as a platoon DH and Junior gets to say goodbye and kiss babies.
Thank god John McLaren and Bill Bavasi are gone. Junior would be starting in CF on Opening Day with a 3 year, $45m contract.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Griffey near return to Mariners
Call me a sentimental old fool but I'd love to see Junior back for one last go-around. Some of my favorite sports memories are of watching him roaming CF in the Kingdome, although they shouldn't let him anywhere near the OF at this stage in his career. Hopefully after getting his knee repaired there's one more decent season at the plate left in him.
Sad but true. I bet Jack Z signs him for around $1M plus incentives.Comment

Re: Griffey near return to Mariners
Jason Churchill at ProspectInsider.com said its a done deal. The guy has a few contacts inside the M's clubhouse, so I tend to believe him.
I have to admit it will be cool to see Jr in #24 again. It just didn't seem right to see him in any other number...kind of like Jordan wearing #45.
I'm happy to see Jr back in Seattle, but at the same time it was painful to see Edgar as a shell of himself in '04. It was obvious he hung on for one year too many and I'm hoping Jr can have a halfway respectable season and go out on a high instead of going out with a whimper like Edgar. I was able to score tickets to Edgar's final home game and I'm going to try to do the same for Junior (although I'm guessing its going to be a hard ticket to find).Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

****, we've been talking about Griffey to Atlanta for like 15 years now. It's about freakin' time if it were to happen.Comment

Re: Griffey near return to Mariners
Braves beat writer Dave O'Brien of the AJC says:
Atlanta is his first choice. He really wants to play for the Braves. Has a daughter on an Atlanta AAU team and a son who’s playing high school football this year in Orlando, and Griffey doesn’t want to be on the other side of the country at Seattle. Plus, he’s always wanted to play for Bobby Cox.
If I had to bet, I’d say this gets done early next week.Comment
