Derek Bell was always a jerk. It doesn't surprise me with what happened to him in Pitsburgh. When he was a young guy in Toronto in 1992 after the AL championship win he went and trashed up Dave Stieb's locker. At that time Stieb couldn't pitch and was quite bummed about the whole situation because he was the workhouse of the Jays throughout the 80s. It was pretty classless to trash up the locker of the franchise's greatest pitcher.

Re: Operation Shut Down
I just checked his stats at baseball-reference.com and he's only 34 now, so he might be playing in some league somewhere. The Pirates paid him $5M the year he batted .173 and the next year he threatens Operation Shutdown? What was .173, Operation Mendoza? Yeah, the Pirates were real sorry to see him go.Comment

He was absolutly terrible, I think he batted .180 for a year. The one thing I rember was he that he was completely bald except for this moustache that made his look like an evil cartoon villain.

Oh ya it's almost a dead match. If he ever blows all the money he took from the Pirates, he always has a job on Star Trek.Comment

Re: Operation Shut Down
I think he's still under contract, so he's technically on the team
