Re: World Baseball Classic '09 - Discussion Thread
This is the problem you have to think of it like a spring training mode. If they go all out and get injured the owners are going to be very pissed. The other Countries don't care if the players get hurt. They just want to win. If AP or AROD, or any other player from another country gets hurt for the year. You think that Country is going to care?Comment

I like that a lot. I would be pretty piss if my stud got hurt. I think that is what it will take for this to end. If AP got injured or some other big name. I can see this ending!Comment

Re: World Baseball Classic '09 - Discussion Thread
no, that would suck and have little relevance for 75%+ of the fans.
go out there and play hard or stfu and stay home.
now...if they want to cut the whining crap out, then they should find a way to have the champion teams from the 4-6 biggest/best leagues play one another in a real world series...my money is still on Japan...primarily bc they haven't bought into the longball hype.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Johnson is a moron.
You don't forfeit games... and you don't play these games like they're spring training games... I don't understand why the US is playing it like an exhibition while every other team in the tournament is trying their hardest to win.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Some mild fireworks in the 8th between the Netherlands and USA. A Netherlands player hit a solo homerun to make it a 8-2 game and didn't get out of the box too quick, so Lindstrom threw behind the next hitter causing the Netherlands dugout to empty. I thought it was a bit petty of Lindstrom to do so. The game is well in hand, that was the first homerun for the Netherlands in the tournament, just let it go. Its even woken the Netherlands up a bit as they've tacked on another run.Comment

I would also cut out Americans being able to play for other countries. This sums up my feelings pretty well.I know he's hurt now, but Alex Rodriguez was born and lived in the good ole USA his entire life, so he should be playing for the Red, White and Blue.
Mike Piazza playing three years ago and now managing the Italian team is ridiculous. He wasn't born in Italy, nor is he a current resident in Italy.
He's got a family tree filled with people from Italy, but what does that mean? Basically, all of us in this country have ancestors from other countries.
You're either an American or you're not. I have no problem with guys like David Ortiz or Miguel Tejada or Justin Moreau or Ichiro Suzuki playing for their home country. They should.
Do you know who are Piazza's assistant coaches on the Italian team? Tom Trebelhorn and Mike Hargrave. I guess they have Italian ancestors too.
Something tells me that the USA team doesn't have any players on it who don't really live in this country, but have ancestors who are from here or once lived here.
In other words, I don't mind you talking trash if you beat me, but don't be talking trash for beating me with my own players.
But if they ever become naturalized citizens of this country, they should play for the USA team.NFL:Packers

Re: World Baseball Classic '09 - Discussion Thread
The thing that sucks about Davy Johnson is leading up to this tournament he talked a big game. He rained down all kinds of negative things about the coaching staff the first time around and how they handled the tournament. He said he was coming to win, and egos be damned, he was going to manage to win. Its one thing to pull guys late in a game that's already been decided, but this lame shortstop situation and the thing with Peavy the other night is shameful to the game. Put together a coaching staff that is going to manage to win or don't bother. If getting work is a problem then MLB needs to add more exhibition games to the schedule. If it means delaying the start of the season another week or two then so be it.
I don't have a problem with a guy like Piazza playing for the Italian team. If you consider yourself an italian (or some other nationality) living in America and you want to represent your home country then fine. The ARod thing though is ridiculous. Three years ago he considered himself American, but this year he's Dominican? That's jut b/s. I'm glad he wasn't able to play this year.Comment

Not really. In spring the stud play to get ready and not go all out. For fear of getting injured. That is what the US is doing. The other countries are like **** it we are going for the win. That is a big difference.Comment

Re: World Baseball Classic '09 - Discussion Thread
Ummm yeah, because right now it's just a glorified spring training to the powers that control the US team. I'd like to see the best collegiate stars put together on a team in the fall and train just like the the old school Olympic hockey teams used to. Live and train as a team ,play exhibitions against winter league teams and play balls out baseball in the Classic.
I would also cut out Americans being able to play for other countries. This sums up my feelings pretty well.
Win lose or Draw for the Americans the more I think about the so called Classic the more I don't like it.Comment

Re: World Baseball Classic '09 - Discussion Thread
And hell yeah it is a pride issue. At least it should be. Sure I think my Country is the best, but every one should feel that way about their country. I just wanted to see more all out playing. Tonight they got lucky and got to play a the Netherlands. That is not really a good way to judge what your team is. Now if they beat Japan, then I will be impressed.Comment
