well, the Netherlands tied it up at 1 but Miguel Cabrera just hit a monster shot to make it 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th.

1. It's on MLB Network.

2. This is the start of the 2nd Round so there's still a lot of games to be played. If they lose this game(down 3-1 in the 8th), then they'll have to beat the loser of the USA vs Puerto Rico game and if they win that game, then they'll have to beat the loser of the Venezuela vs USA/Puerto Rico winner game to make it into the final round in LA.

The seeding game is still stupid.

Either at the point that you have a 2-0 team, a 2-1 team, a 1-2 team, and 0-2 team you should be done with the 2-0 team being the 1 seed and the 2-1 team being the 2 seed (consolation format style). Or if the 2-1 team beats the 2-0 team, they need to play again since you shouldn't be "eliminated" with less than 2 losses (true double elimination style).

Did I miss something? Teams don't get eliminated with less than 2 losses. They both advance. That final game between the 2-1 and 2-0 teams is strictly for determining seeding for the next round.

Did I miss something? Teams don't get eliminated with less than 2 losses. They both advance. That final game between the 2-1 and 2-0 teams is strictly for determining seeding for the next round.

His point is that they aren't finishing the pools. I understand the logic from the WBC because it's just an extra game that amounts to nothing since both teams move on, but how can you give Venezuela the advantage of a higher seed over the USA or Korea over Japan just because they happened to win the second meeting between the two teams? This is being referred to as a double elimination tournament because once you lose two games, then you're out. But by eliminating the USA or Japan(within their pool) with only 1 loss, it means that they didn't truly determine who is deserving of a higher seed and just happened to give it to the team that wins that last game. The USA could've won that next game against Venezuela(which would give them 2 losses) and would've gotten, presumably, a better matchup against the Netherlands but ended up getting stuck with a beatdown from Puerto Rico.

The double elimination should be used to rank all the teams in the pool. The first team to 2 losses is 4th, the second team is 3rd, the third team is 2nd, and then the winner didn't get 2 losses. From there, the 1st and 2nd ranked teams move on with accordance to that seeding.

That would make sense, but the seeding game exists for 5 reasons:

1. Extra $$$ for MLB
2. The team that wins their first 2 games doesn't have to wait around for 4-5 days to play another game
3. Extra $$$ for MLB
4. Fans get another chance to see the two best teams in the group play each other
5. Extra $$$ for MLB

Well, Puerto Rico just beat the USA by the ten run mercy rule, 11-1 in 7 innings. The USA has to beat the Netherlands tommorrow to survive.
