Wow, I actually went back a few pages and read what Pauly was saying earlier. This guy is pretty funny. A biased Yankee fan can make a thread become very very long......

ya, but does he play gold glove defense at short stop? Its much easier to find a 40+ home run hitting Outfielder, than a 50+ home run hitting Shortstop.

A-rod is 27, fastest player to 300 home runs, has gone 40-40, has won a batting title, should have won 2 MVP's, and if he stays healthy will break the home run record(I'd put money on it), and will more than likely win 5 or so Gold gloves. If in 5-10 years your still not saying he is the best SS of all time I'll be surprised. Honus Wagner is still the best SS of all time as of right now. Just give A-rod time. What else can Alex do? seriously, that would make him better than Banks? He's going to do everything possible eventually.

In his first 2 full seasons, Soriano hit 57 homers.... in ARods first 2 full seasons, he hit 59.... the only thing Soriano dont have going against AROD umbers wise, his his age.. hes 4 years less in the MLB than AROD, and only 3 years younger.. But Soriano has the bat speed that could give him the upper edge, especially against fastball pitchers. Soriano jumps on first pitches, not because hes anxious or impatient, but because hes an awesome fast ball hitter.. ARod is just very hard to get out, because hes smart about working the count in his favor. Plus playing in Arllington half of his games dont hurt either... Soriano has alot more room at Yankee Stadium, that he has to get the ball out of... 399 ft to left center field... Thats no joke to hit a ball out over there, where a majority of his homers go..

arods is in his 10th year at 27 soon to be 28 in july

soriano is in his 5th year at age 25 already

so actually alfonso has played 5 less years and is less than 3 years younger

at 20 years old ARODS first full season he was already putting up numbers that Soriano didnt put up until he was 24 years old last season

so AROD has quite an advantage to soriano considering soriano will never get those 4 years back again and AROD is raising the bar year in year out with incredible consistancy

then take into account a list of the greatest shortstops ever its alot easier to imagine AROD finsihing very high on this list in the near future it can be argued he belongs on there now considering he is the best shortstop of the current great generation (garciaparra, tejada, jeter, rollins, etc)

Re: ALFONSO SORIANO: Is He The Most Complete Player in MLB?

in fact what i meant to add to that is AROD can already be considered the third best on the shortstop list

his career acomplishments so far have him neck n neck with ken griffey jr....at the exact same age......

and considering the fact he is a shortstop that puts him in some lofty company easily one of the top 30 players (again non pitcher of all time)

so take that all in consider what many thought juinor would have accomplished by now 6 years later and what he was suppose to accomplish all time (projections)

apply that to AROD and you can easily see where he could end up .......of course that is if he can avoid the injuries that are a X FACTOR......just ask junior

I just want to add that many great players, i.e. Ted Williams, lost playing time due to military service. In Williams case it was during the prime of his career. It seems like many of you are referring to numbers in this thread, so this should be taken into account. I will just throw this out there, but I will not make an argument . I won't be able to prove a point no matter what I do.

Soriano ranks currently in the AL:

                      2nd in Batting Average- .389

                      1st in Runs Scored- 26

                      1st in Hits- 44

                      1st in HRs- 9

                      2nd in RBI- 24

                      4-th in Stolen Bases- 5

                      7th in On Base %- .444

                      2nd in Slugging %- .699

And he has 1 through 24 games played.

ALL this from the leadoff position.
I dunno...it's still early, but he's as hot as anyone could be right now.

He's the real deal alright, but the runs/RBI total can be semi-credited to the list of a-b class sluggers up and down that lineup.

Agreed, but realize that he`s leading the AL in RBI batting Leadoff.
That is not easy. He's not getting the 3rd, 4th and 5th guys home, he's getting the 7th, 8th and 9th guys over. Yeah, the Yanks are deep, but as good as Jeter is, he could never put up these numbers and he bats 2nd (obviously he's not playing now). And that's another thing. Soriano's doing this without Jeter in the lineup and Giambi is having a slow start.

Soriano is torching it right now. He's in the zone.
