They are not alike in the fact that AROD helped change the way the position was thought of. Like I said since Arod hit the scene, the all glove no hit SS of the past , are all but extinct.

I take it you're meaning Bonds, right?.... well if MVP's mean so much, isn't it funny Ruth never got a single one, and gehrig only had one, willie mays only had one... i think MVP's only have to do with the deminished talent in baseball today

Also, some notables.... Pete Rose..alltime leader in hits... MVP's=1
Hank Aaron... alltime leader in homeruns, MVP's=1

          <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Okay, Ruth and Gehrig don't have more mvp's because they didn't start giving the award 'till '31. Also, Mays has two mvp's not 1. Rose and Aaron did win only one each, yet each has one of baseball's most coveted offensive records. That is a testimony to their outstanding consistency. Isn't 5 MVP'S!!! consistent? And that's not even counting the two times he finished runner up in the voting. That's 7 years that he's been in the top 2 players in the league. Oh, ya he's also got a closet full of gold gloves, a batting tittle, and will have 500 stolen bases by the end of the month (only 500-500 guy ever)!
Arod, soriano, and the rest have alot to do (in my mind) before i would consider them up with bonds. and they may very well be there someday, but not yet.
If you're just talking about presently (this year) i would have to say vladimir, his arm, he needs to be more patient at the plate, though he is improving. another honorable mention (although hurt right now) has to go to brian giles. the numbers he puts up in that pittsburgh lineup are amazing.

Yes I do, and he was a great player, but he didnt change an entire generation so SS's.

              Get a clue.

I am no Bonds fan. But I have to say he's the best all around player that I have ever seen. His only weakness was his throwing arm. But he's been a wonderful LF, hit for power, average, and stolen bases.

He's eaten the Padres up every year since he was called up.

re: the shortstop position I would say that Cal Ripken was the one that revolutionized it. Before Ripken came along most shortstops were all glove-no hit and were small guys. Ripken was the first really "big" guy to play the position and while there were still some all glove-no hit type of SS' around there were some teams that decided to change that. I will say that Arod did open the floodgates for guys like him to play SS but if it wasn't for ripken you'd probably still see small speedy guys playing the position today.

No you get a clue... he revolutionized it so much, they had to move him to 1B, because they were afraid leaving him at SS would shorten his career. true, Banks only hit .300 a few times.. A-Rod probrably already has more, which would probrably make him better, but A-Rod didnt revolutionize anything... if you were a little bit older and wiser, you might understand this
