No doubt. I was talking about who was next in line, because the writers made up their minds in May, I think.

I think Wainwright (or anyone else) would have to finish with at least two more wins than Jimenez to even get a first place vote from outside of their own market.

      2009: 4.38 ERA

Sutcliffe gushes: "And this is before they even got Cliff Lee. You talk about improvement!"

Yeah, want to see the real improvement?

      2008 team UZR: -45.8
      2009 team UZR: 25.6

      And isolating the defense improvement:

      2008: 4.88 xFIP
      2009: 4.56 xFIP

      Down with ERA!
Eh, I still think ERA is a somewhat useful stat, maybe not the be all and end all it's been used as for a century now but still....You're never going to get the overall population to fully understand and accept the UZR (though that has had some acceptance in some circles outside of the sabermetric crowd) and xFIP numbers.

I love how there's a picture of Mike Lupica. His writing makes me gag.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Fan-effing-tastic! Thanks for alerting me to this, guys!

EDIT: There went the rest of my work day. This is a treasure trove.

So I feel like an idiot asking this, but I can't find anything on Deadspin with the FJM stuff or the Jete article. I see the link above that announced FJM day, but that's about it.

That's great. That's really ****ing great. This is a perfect example of why wins should be flushed down the stat-toilet along with toilet paper made of batting average and used condoms filled with RBIs.

                          Can't wait until next year.

"He's my all-time favorite player," Yankees outfielder Marcus Thames said. "So his numbers are not up. You wouldn't know it. He seems fine to me. He's a helluva leader. I check him out to see how he handles things. Every single night, he wants to win."

Unlike Robinson Cano, who is on record saying he only wants to win two out of every three games.
