    Pat Venditte watch thread 2009

Just thought I'd make this thread sine it's opening day in the South Atl. League today. Venditte is playing for the Charleston RiverDogs.

    Switch pitching ftw!

I doubt he ever makes it to the majors. He isn't close to being considered a prospect by the Yankees.

Maybe not, but it's worth watching.

What I find most interesting about Venditte is being listed twice on the official roster. Something about the system being incapable of analyzing stats correctly with a switch pitcher (not surprisingly). So, he needs to be listed as a LHP and again as a RHP.

I find it interesting because Venditte can possibly be the first player to make the majors and not make the majors. I doubt we'll see him being a switch pitcher in MLB unless he is equally nasty from both sides. Likely, one side will mature at a faster rate, will succeed at a higher percentage, and will be promoted by the Yankees.

He isn't listed as a top prospect, but Cashman has said that he finds him intriguing and no matter what, he's doing enough to get a long enough look and strong consideration once he reaches AA ball.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

That's definitely an interesting point. I think he can make it with both hands, if he has the work ethic, which by all accounts he does. I will say that he needs to add 2-3mph left handed definitely.

He didn't get to pitch last night because Charleston got spanked, but we'll see him sooner or later.

Lol, he is a bit goofy looking, but he is proving pretty effective in the SAL:

He's not given up a run yet, and he has 4 saves and a win in 5 games, and has 11Ks.

Dude had a great year last year, posted a 0.83 ERA and was 23 for 23 in save opps.

Was this the guy that faced a switch hitter for the last out and pissed him off because when the batter would go lefty he would switch his glove and throw lefty, etc.?

That was hilarious! The guy ended up grounding out with the tying run in scoring position because he couldn't bat opposite of the pitcher's throwing arm.

If I could pitch with both my arms, I'd be damn happy too.

Yeah that was him lol. I think the batter struck out in the end.

                            Another update:

                            http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/m...pbp&pid=519381

                            11.2 IP Still a 0.00 ERA, 21K, 1-1, 7 saves.

Has given up no hits against left handed hitting in 4.0 IP.

Now let's trade him and Austin Jackson plus a hyped minor leaguer for Jamie Moyer!
