Joe Morgan + Steve Phillips= torture. I hate them both. I really wish MLB blackout restrictions didn't limit me to ESPN, and let me watch the game on my mlb.tv account. Oh well.

    Oh...and GO JACOBY!
I muted them after they said Pedroia was not a good basestealer even though he stole 20 bases last year and was only caught once.

      lol...I know, rediculous!

I ended up doing the same just now.

I tried using the gameday audio feed from my account but apparently the ESPN broadcast is a bit behind WRKO. Oh well.

If it were reversed, I could balance it with the DVR. How sad is it that these are the things we have to think about and plot because the ESPN broadcast is so horrible.

Does it surprise anyone that Jon Miller used to be a Red Sox broadcaster? Don Orsillo doesn't get this biased.

lol...well, to be fair, I've always found Miller to be a bit of a front runner in general. Meaning whoever is ahead is doing amazing things in his eyes (Joe Buck is similar...though worse, since he beats to death whatever the headline story was going in...lol.)

Doesn't excuse showing bias of course, though.

Anyway, much more "normal" game. At least it wasn't pushing 5 hours.Everyone should know that, while a sweep is nice (from this side of things, of course), it means little in April. I think we swept you guys early last year, then turned around and got swept ourselves...lol. We play eachother so much.

You guys do need some bullpen depth though.

The shocking thing was, Steve Phillips was the voice of reason when Miller and Morgan kept arguing over the Berroa error where Ellsbury took third. It was Phillips who ended the nonsense by pointing out that it made no difference where Ellsbury ended up because there would have been two outs had Berroa just made a good throw. Holy crap though, what a train wreck this crew is.

Satisfying win though for the Sox. Don't read much into it, since it seems like every year the Sox start off with a 6-0 or 5-1 record against the Yankees only to finish the season series around .500. Masterson pitched extremely well given the abundance of switch hitters and left-handed bats in the Yankees lineup. That was a tough matchup for him but he looked good, ran out of gas though in the 6th. Francona had to have been tempted to leave Bowden in for the 9th. Three innings would have been no problem since he's a starter at Pawtucket, but Saito should be more than capable of taking over (and was). Bowden's fastball appeared to get on the Yankees hitters quickly, despite topping out at 92 (in his start last summer he was routinely 93-95 so maybe tonight was just an off night). Melancon looked good for NY, though I had to laugh when Morgan mentioned Girardi loved the movement on his fastball, since it looked pretty straight to me. He has a nice easy delivery though so that 95 mph might seem even faster to the hitters. He certainly seems more worthy of a bullpen job than Veras.

Ten game winning streak for the Sox, I like it.

What is Bowden's projection for the majors? His fastball looked pretty straight and it was only sitting at 92. He does have a funky delivery though.

It's decent. I think he's projected as a back end starter (about a #4 probably) His real strengths are his delivery (which you saw/mentioned) and he's supposed to have pretty good command/accuracy overall.

His pitches are pretty much average all around though, from what I recall reading. He only has three pitches and none of them rate as particularly impressive (I think I read his change is supposed to be his best pitch...not sure on that though), though I think I remember reading a report that said he did a good job adding and subtracting MPH from them.

He looked pretty good the couple times I've seen him now, but I wonder how that will change if guys catch on to his delivery. On a side note, I'm also wondering if that's been the case with Okie's recent struggles as he's a similar pitcher in that regard.

Last night was my first chance at listening/watching the SNB game. My God man! The prescence of Phillips AND Morgan has ruined Jon Miller. Listening to Miller now makes me cry as he sounds like a caricature of himself. The best example was the standup before the game as they were talking about what to expect and Miller sounded like he was loopy.

This makes me sad. Very Very sad....

Now i'm happy that Dan Shulman shifted his focus from baseball to basketball. He won't have to deal with those knuckleheads when Miller hangs up his microphone.

He's projected as a #3 type starter, though I tend to think his future is in the pen. His fastball is usually better than what he showed last night (more 93-95) but it is straight as an arrow. Clearly his delivery was problematic for the Yankees hitters as he was blowing guys away with 91 stuff and he couldn't get his change down. He has a big curve that I don't think he showed last night. His strength is definitely his ability to change speeds as his change and curve are both 10 mph or more slower than the fastball. Starters can succeed with a straight heater but their margin for error is smaller. The jury is still out on him but the front office seems fairly high on him.
