I have been a Mets fan for 7 years now. Lost interest in the Braves when they started shipping the guys I had been following in middle school away (Justice, Gant, etc.). I picked up with the Mets cause they seemed like a cool young team. Olerud, Baerga....... a cool young pitching staff (Wilson, Isringhausen, etc.) and a winning attitude. This "spirit" , if you will, peaked in 2000. Its no where to be seen now. I sat through last year hoping against hope.... this experience would make them stronger. Next year would be different. This year IS different. They look like less of a team than ever (and I never thought that possible
). 8 errors and 27 Ks in 2 games.... with one of the highest payrolls in Baseball?!? Its ridiculous. We have become the Yankees of the early 90's that Senfield loved to mock.... overpriced and lacking in the one true element of baseball.... heart. Teams have proven you can win in the absence of superstar talent. I have never seen a team win without heart (and Im being serious so lets avoid all the literal jokes here). Players don't bother running out the throw to first. They appear lackluster on the bench and in the field. They don't want to be there.... why should I waste my time watching them. I still hope for the best for the Mets (I also think this year will prove it was Steve Phillips who should have been booted instead of Bobby). But I just can't take it anymore.
P.S. Any suggestions on a young team I could "latch" on to now. Im not really worried about the records. I just want a team thats fun to watch. A team that makes me enjoy baseball, instead of realizing how many millions of dollars these guys get paid to play BADLY. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
