Re: Okay Thats It..... Ive Had Enough

I'm a fellow Mets fan, though for alot longer and through better, and worse times. I have to admit that I jumped ship in 1993 at the end of the Dallas Green era. Those were dark days for the Mets and they were impossible to enjoy watching. I took to rooting for the Indians who were coming off a 100 loss season yet seemed headed in the right direction. I never stopped wanting the Mets to get better, but I wanted most of their players to die first. Thank God the Cleveland Indians and Cal Ripken Jr. both kept me interested in major league baseball during the dark days of the Mets and the strike. Don't abandon the Mets, but if you want to borrow a team to root for that is not good yet but fun to root for, I say go for it. I would suggest the Royals who have given me solace this year. I know it is a bit late to jump on their bandwagon, but if you can't root for Tony Pena and Mike Sweeney, who can you root for? If that is not enough to excite you their best pitcher is named Runelvys and they have a rookie closer who is doing better than most established closers. I don't know about you, but Pena is one of my favorite players ever and it is awesome that he has that team playing so well. They'll come back down to earth but they'll put more effort into each game than the overpaid Mets will put into the rest of the season.

So, you could root for the Royals, or just wait for Jose Reyes to save us!

Still a Mets fan and that will never change!!! So they are in a funk, they will bounce back!! If they don't, then I wait until next year. If you are not a true fan, don't let the door hit you on the way out. I hate bandwagon fans and I hope they NEVER latch on to the Mets no matter how good they become in the future.

Don't feel bad, other teams have high priced bums too. As a Red Sox fan i feel your losing ways, but i will pray to break the curse every year till i die, without the red ox ever winning a searies. at least bostan has Tom Brady...

anyway, Todd Walker hit a slow ground ball should have been a DP, and instead of running it out just in case, his million dollar *** basically walked to first. It was a close play, and if he had hustled he would have been safe.

The Mets want to buy a ring, rather than earn it, i see alot of MLB teams trying that, it only seems to work for the Yankees...

Normally I would agree with you. If the Mets were rebuilding I would have chewed this guy out for being impatient. I am tired of having to root for proffessional atheletes who don't give it their all though. I was at the last game Benitez blew against the Marlins and it was horrible. The best part of the game was chanting "Timo" every time the worthless sac of flesh Cedeno came up and especially after he let the ball fly over his head in center.

I think Piazza and Wigginton give it their all on every play and I respect them for that. Timo plays hard off the bench and should be a starter. The jury is out on Floyd. Alomar, Vaughn and Burnitz have been payroll drains and little more since day one. Cedeno is worthless and should dissapear, Sanchez is just keeping a spot warm for "The Savior" and Benitez actually told WFAN after that game that he doesn't care about the fans. I have no complaints about the pitching staff though I hope never to have to sit through the human rain delay, Steve Trachsel, in person again.

I am not ready to quit on the Mets, but I can see why someone might be reaching the point of no return with them. It's not like it used to be where the players had a relationship with the city and you rooted for them through thick and thin. Aside from Timo and Wigginton, who on the Mets team is even really a "Met".

Again, don't give up on the Mets, keep rooting for them, not against them. But if you want to enjoy watching a young team play ball the right way, get MLB.tv (Like I did to watch the Mets) and watch a Royals game now and then just so that you don't forget that some teams still play the right way.

Hey, don't forget about my boy Shinjo. He hustles his *** off, even if he makes a few blunders here and there. I think Alomar is starting to play like he is on a mission now. Which is surprising me. Burnitz and Cedeno do need to disappear.

                        1. This year's Sox team is playing really well overall. If you look at the standings and compare them to teams not named the Yankees you might be impressed. The Boston media is already pulling their sky is falling routine, but the Sox are a decent closer away from being a World Series caliber team.

                        2. Growing up in NY as a Mets fan and living the last 7 years in Boston and watching the Sox daily has made me the biggest Yankee ***** there is. But if you think they "buy" their championships you are not paying attention. Bernie, Soriano, Jeter, Posada, Nick Johnson, Pettite and Rivera are all home grown. The Yanks may spend more money, but they also spend it wisely and don't trade away good prospects. Yes, I remember Buhner for Phelps, but that was 10 years ago, maybe more. I hate King George, but at least he is committed to winning. The Sox management is not sure it will re-sign Pedro and Nomar when the time comes....the Yanks will be waiting with huge checks

I'll give ya that on Shinjo, he plays hard. Too bad he forgot how to hit when he came from Japan. I'd still rather him in the lineup over Cedeno any day, and probably over Burnitz too....though he was doing surprisingly well before he got hurt.

Alomar does seem interested all of the sudden. I was really starting to believe in them until Sunday, that was just embarassing. Maybe I should take my own advice I gave to Sox fan and not claim the sky is falling....except the Mets are not in the Wild Card Spot, they're in last!

I have to agree that a team is yours no matter how poor/bad they are, and sticking with them. Last year I only went to two Mets games because they weren't all that exciting to watch (I must have watched only about 50 games of theirs on tv...another low) so I can see how the original poster might not find this team all that exciting. But g-dammit...I will not leave the team or stop rooting for them or stop poring over the boxscores. If I'm not leaving when Vince Coleman is throwing firecrackers, AY's challenging all-time loss records, Eddie Murray's being an *** to reporters, Bobby Bo is dogging it, Cone gets traded for a talentless outfielder and an infielder who leaves before he becomes almost great, or even Davey Johnson being fired for a 20-22 record after being a gift from heaven (and later showing how good a manager he is by winning divisions as a manager on two other teams afterwards) then I'm not leaving now. And a person who has grown along with a team and has vivid memories (both positive and negative) of watching games on tv and in person SHOULDN'T want to leave that team either. If the Mets aren't fun to watch...watch other teams more often, but don't switch loyalties. Watch some Sunday night baseball instead of the Mets games then, but don't leave poor Roger Cedeno to the wolves because you can't stand to watch him play center. Art Howe agrees with you. Watch Zito and Mulder pitch and admire their skill...but then root for them to go to the Mets instead of rooting for the A's. I just can't understand jumping teams...but maybe that's because I follow the teams too much.
