Why did the Stros sign Jeff Kent who cost a crapload for a 2nd baseman, when they might have had a chance of signing a better pitcher or releiver? Not trying to say they have a bad pitching staff, but I do think they gave Kent an upperhand in that deal, and Biggio in center sucks.

I couldn't agree more, I'm a Giants fan and I was glad to see that guy go. The 'Stros got ripped on that deal, bigtime! Kent is nothing special when not hitting next to Bonds. He's also a problem in the clubhouse, several Giants players have been quoted on saying how well their team gets along now. Hmmm, maybe it was Kent that was the jerk?

I gotta feel for the 'stros pitchers though, that's a tough park to pitch in. I'm also surprised they gave up on Reynolds.
If they did feel the need to move on from Dierker, why didn't they get somebody from their own organization, I think Jose Cruz has earned a shot at managing.

Re: WTF IS UP WITH THE ASTROS!

At the time the fans seemed to be clamouring for Tony Pena who was the manager of the Astros AAA club, the New Orleans Zephyrs. He did become the bench coach before moving on to manage the Royals. In hindsight perhaps it would have been better to hire Tony, but that ship has sailed. Tony is doing a fine job in KC.

Jimy has only been here for a little over a season, so I'm willing to cut him some slack. If they keep losing like this though.........

Reason we got Kent was b/c our offense was not producing last season. Our pitching was doing fantastic, but the bats weren't helping them out at all. Sound familiar? I remember last season, Oswalt could easily have won 24 games. I think in 8 of his last starts he gave up under 3 runs yet managed to get a loss or a no decision. He ended up with 19 wins. My friend thinks I'm crazy but I think putting Berk back at the 3 spot will help him and the team out tremendously. The year he did bat 3rd, he was leading the league in batting average most of the year. Just one of my crazy theories.

Well DK, he needs to bust out of his funk before he goes to the 3 spot. Why put a guy hitting barely at the Mendoza line in the 3 hole?

Right. Berkman will eventually come around, but until then he doesn't need to be in the 3 spot.

for reel. The astros need to start winning. I know they get off to a slow start every year (i know because i'm a long time astros fan) but come on. They have lost 14 of 16 games....or something like that. Even without berkman hitting very good we should be able to win games. This is just pitiful. But i'm still going to watch their games.
