Actually I was a sophomore in high school, about 16 years old... that's 13 years difference, when ironically enough, that's about how long Bonds has been in baseball, actually he's been in longer, and i'm sure he's got MUCH better trainers and weight equipment that I had.

Still...you can't compare the two...you were still naturally growing and going through puberty still....you can't tell me that Bonds has been going through puberty from ~21 to 39 y/o!!

I would really like to see one male, who works out, that is the same size at 39 that he was at 21. Why would the guy continue to work out? Don't you think he would give up if he wasn't getting bigger. This is REAL SIMPLE
If you continue to work out, you will continue to grow, and get stronger,
THAT'S WHY YOU FU#$IN' WORK OUT

you will never hear this conversation.

                -'hey, you been workin' out?'
='ya, everyday for the past 18 years'
-'oh, cool, cuz I noticed that you're still the same size you were 18 years ago.'
='ya, and I'm not any stronger either. that's why I work out, cuz I don't want to get bigger or stronger, I just want to stay the same, alot of people choose to stay the same size by NOT working out, nope, not me I work out anyways.'
-'ya, all those guys who get bigger and stronger when they work out they're ALL on steroids.'
='I wonder why they had weights before steroids."

Re: How did Barry Bonds get so great so fast?

There is no doubt that weight training is much more popular in professional sports today compared to 10-15 years ago.

Hitters are also using better technologies (videos, etc..) to analyze their own games.

15 years ago, power hitters were mostly "pull hitters". Guys like Canseco, Carter, McGriff, etc...were all unable to go the other way too often. They also hit for an average of around .275 or so.

Nowadays, power hitters are hitting over .300 consistently. This in my mind contributes to the high home run totals. Players are htting with power to ALL fields.

The question of whether Bonds is taking enhancements is irelevant to me. If you look at his approach to the plate, he is probably one of the smartest hitters in the past 20 years (along with Gwynn and Boggs). If you can't see this fact, then you really don't understand the game.

not defending him at all. I have no idea whether he is jucing or not, I don't pretend to be an expert. What I do know is that he was big for a few seasons before he hit 73. Lets assume he was juicing, it did not make him hit 73. He hit 73 because he totally locked in at the plate and no one could get one by him that whole year. There are plenty of guys in the bigs strong enough to hit every BP pitch over the fence, but that does not translate into an actual game. IF Bonds took steroids it might have given him a few extra feet on some of those HR's, but it was not the main reason for them.

I still maintain that if he was juicing, he'd be breaking down by now. As long as there is no testing I will give all the players the benefit of the doubt, I don't like to see people unfairly accused. Then again, if they would agree to testing they would not have to worry about it. BTW, Bonds has said all along that he supports testing and has offered to be the fist to get tested if they implement it. ]
