Re: Trade question for WSB players...

I found a way of trading for great players.

Keep an eye on the news and look for any GMs saying that it's time to give young players a chance. They will then consider offers for stars but you have to give up a lot. I managed to get Sweeney out of the Royals this way.

Hey Gamer.... I re-started, got Giles #1, then managed to still grab Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Brad Radke, Ben Sheets and a rotation of #5 starters, my pen is kinda lapse though and I don't have a clear cut closer.

Just made a deal for Mike Remlinger though to solidify my bullpen a little.

That's a sweet pitching line-up. The main reason why I chose the Cubs for my franchise is their pitching staff. Giles was the player of the month for April in my WSB franchise.

Sosa just went on the DL for 73 days. I hope you have decent backups for Giles because in WSB, there is no way a star player will make it through the entire season without getting a major injury. Good luck!

Tell me about it! I lost Jermaine Dye in my last franchise for 98 days or something... but then again it's Dye and he gets hurt frequently anyway so I didn't think much about it.

I needed more bats, so I went and made a trade for Juan Gonzalez, right now i'm sporting a payroll over my projected income, but it's no matter, I got a slew of people only around for 1-year so that'll be less i'll have to resign, PLUS if i'm not competing at the deadline, I'll dump off a high salary person or two.

I have been able to pry certain guys away, and it's usually with pitchers. I was able to trade into A-Rod by offering Aurillia (I traded Alou and A-Gon for him I think) and pitchering (imagine the Rangers needing pitching!). II was also able to trade into Carlos Delgado as well by offering Hee Sop Choi and pitching (I am in July in my Cubs franchise and "interest has gone up" in the Cubs so I suddenly seem to have some $$ to spend) . Sometimes it's easier to get the big-ticket players from small market teams if they can get cheaper players too. As an aside, this may be cheesy but in my franchise at least it seems like you can trade a used bat for half the Mariners - didn't do this but as I was making the trading rounds at the beginning of the season the Mariners were happy to punt Garcia, Sasaki, Pineiro and others for almost nothing in return - weird.

You're asking for trouble by having your payroll over your projected income. You better get your season off to a great start because if your fan interest drops after the first month or two, you'll be in a hole that you'll never be able to get yourself out of. Keep us updated.

I know... I made the deal for Juan Gone, but didn't realize he made 60 BP's a year! That put me like 15-20 BP's over budget... but so far, in the first game with him, he homered and doubled, so he's paying off so far... just hope my pitching holds up..

What's the scoop on releasing players? Is there any penalty? I can easily just deal Juan to anywhere if I see his extra bat isn't doing what I need it to in getting me wins.

I'm pretty sure that if you release a player, you'll have to pay his BP until some other team signs him. I'm also pretty sure that no other team in WSB will be foolish enough to take on Gonzalez's 60 BP if you release him. You'll also probably have a tough time getting anyone to trade any decent players for him. Trading for Gonzalez is the first big mistake you made in your franchise, in my opinion. Then again, you might get lucky.

If I deal him, I already know i'll have to seclude myself to only dealing with teams WELL under the projected income in payroll, and THEN try to get a prospect, and some other cheap token players... maybe bullpen help.

Sad thing is my manager recommended I did the trade, I gave basically nothing for Juan gone.. I think a #5 starter and a reliever. Neither were anything notable.
