See, that was the great thing about Sanchez's outing. Nobody earned their way on base by a walk or hit by pitch. He had to get 28 outs for the no-hitter, and should have been a perfect game. The team shouldn't matter (it should help, but it shouldn't matter). Giving up no hits while not working around batters for four balls in any one plate appearance is, as you put it, astonishing.

Re: Jonathan Sanchez NO HITTER
Giants fans have been told a long time ago that this kid has amazing stuff. And we believe them, but his biggest problem was control. If he can get the control problem fixed and he might have. He looked great in relief too. Then skies the limit for this kid. I wonder if the Giants will try to trade him now! I wouldn't. A left hand pitcher with that kind of stuff is not easy to find. Unless M.B. keeps tearing it up in AA.Comment

Re: Jonathan Sanchez NO HITTER
I don't understand all the bashing of Sanchez or the Padres. Actually, the whole NL-West gets bashed. What's the point? In baseball, heavy hitting lineups stacked with big time players can get run over and vice versa. Baseball is a game of 162 games played for that very reason.
Hats off to Sanchez for this amazing feat of not allowing a hit or walking a player. The fact that his previous history showed nothing to really believe he would be the first player to do it this year and in Giants history in the past 30 or so years.. it's awesome. Also the fact that this was the first time his dad had come to a game to see him pitch in the bigs makes it even better.I do because I can, I can because I want, I want because you say I can'tComment

Re: Jonathan Sanchez NO HITTER
yeah its stupid that people would try to disclaim what sanchez did becuz he played a bad team. so basically those people are also saying that if a guy hits a hr off a lousy pitcher, it shouldnt count. if a good team beats a bad one, the win shoudlnt count. if a team wins a weak division it shouldnt count. i think its ridiculous to judge things based on how good the other team is. all those players/teams are professionals! they're in the bigs for one reason or another and obviously have talent if they're there! yes, sanchez didnt no hit a team like the yankees, but he still threw one!Comment

Re: Jonathan Sanchez NO HITTER
Did anyone say that? But as a Giants fan. I think this will turn him around. Unless the control problems come back. I think he tweak his motion and it has helped. He looked great in relief, so I am hopeful.Comment

Re: Jonathan Sanchez NO HITTER
Unless his control problems come back? Just because he pitched one excellent game where his control was perfect doesn't mean his control issues have gone away. If he limits his walks over the next 4 or 5 starts I might be more convinced. I think he had everything click for him this one start. Not saying he's a bad pitcher, but I seriously believe he isn't going to develop into anything but a #3 starter at very best. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, wouldn't be the first time.
Oh, and you called him dominating as a reliever...he has pitched 4 innings in relief this year. 3 of them coming when the Giants were blowing out the other team.Comment

Mostly in his delivery, so to me I think he is going to be fine. I would say he was dominating as reliever and he still can be. He probably be great in that role. It is usually after 3 to 4 innings is where the problems started for him.
I don't know I still think he can be a number 1. He has nasty stuff and he is now starting to put it together. We will see how he does his next start. But you have to give it to him. He had control issues and now he throws a No hitter with no walks. You have to give him so props! I have faith in SanchezLast edited by Scottdau; 07-12-2009, 10:06 PM.Comment

Re: Jonathan Sanchez NO HITTER
i said such a thing, and i believe it because he always had the stuff to become a good pitcher, but always had control issues. i mean look at lester, after he no-hit the royals, he all of a sudden became a stud.GT - Rocky Roeder

Re: Jonathan Sanchez NO HITTER
Is that Buchholz comment sarcasm? I definitely wouldn't say his no-hitter has "started his career" based on how he has done since. And then of course there are pitchers like Bud Smith and Anibal Sanchez (which I know probably isn't fair because of injuries, but oh well) who also haven't had great success since.
I'm not saying Jonathan Sanchez is a bad pitcher, I'm just saying let's wait a bit before we crown him a stud.
Oh, and how did Millwood's "start" his career? Guy was pretty established before that.Comment

And ditto to Verlander on the no-hitter starting his career, his career was also off to a good start prior to the no-no.Green Bay Packers | Milwaukee Brewers | Bradley Braves | Wisconsin Badgers
