I shudder to think where the Sox would be without Loiza this year. We would be battling the Tigers for the cellar. Which may be happening soon anyway.

The guy started out the year with a minor league contract. So while he may be "playing for a contract" it is certainly not in the normal sense. He has been pitching to stay in the big leagues and doing a hell of a job.

As far as Buerhle goes, he f*cked up big time. He turned down some serious coin, counting on having another good year before free agency. He will not get what he turned down.

Speaking of the White Sox, what the hell is going on with Paul Konerko. Is he still hovering around .200? He's got way too much talent to be batting around that mark.

As for pitcher trades, I must agree with the statement that you should trade Loiza when he's high, because I think he's pitching WAY over his head right now. Normally he fades right after April, but this time he's managed to string it out a little longer, its only a matter of time until the celing caves in on this guy.

I don't think he is actually a free agent until 2006. My understanding is that he turned down 5 years for 27 million because that would have delayed his free-agency even further.

So the Sox renewed him for a year at 400-500K range and he is eligible for arbitration after this year.

So I guess he still has time to turn it back around before free-agency but his chances for making big bucks in arbitration don't look very good right now.

He just seems to have lost his confidence. Granted he is not getting much run support but he is prone to giving up some big innings.

No one knows WTF is going on with Konerko. He really tailed off in the 2nd half last year and just looks lost out there now

                        Indians fan here.

I love Colon but he can be frustrating. The start on Monday against the Tribe summed him up perfectly. Awesome for 3 2/3 innings but then did just enough to lose. This happened so often when he was with the Indians - especially against the weaker teams.

The flip side is that in the big games he could be awesome. Game 1 against the Mariners in the 2001 playoffs he was amazing. I think he set a record for number of consecutive scorless post season innings in that series - something like 15-16.

I love Bartolo and I hope he goes on to be a great pitcher but the avoidable losses where he just seems under motivated are so frustrating. It will be interesting to see where he goes. Yanks are always the favourite for a big pitcher but I would hate to see Bart there.
