You know the funny thing is that we really were in agreement about Andruw Jones being the best center-fielder in the N.L.

It was kind of like a bad situation comedy where the mis-communication just blew up.

Re: Cubs vs. Yankees (Sunday June 8, 2003)

The arguing is all fun and games, but comparing either to Mays is just dumb.

and here are some stats from this year...

      Jones
YEAR G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS
      2003 57 223 38 67 10 0 16 49 25 52 1 1 .300 .368 .561 .929

      Patterson
YEAR G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS
      2003 57 236 39 76 12 6 12 46 7 54 10 4 .322 .343 .576 .919

Damn it, they are basically dead even, and dont' say that crap about Patterson waving his bat around, Jones does the same thing.

Oh and back to the game...
that guy who got picked off, he's gonna get traded tomorrow, what a ******. He looked like Willie Mays Hays not even making it to the bag.

It takes quite a person to apologize to another person in that manner. I appreciate that

Hopefully now we can put this petty argument behind us.

Again, sorry to everyone, including Goaty.

                  one more thing...

Jones struck out 135 times last year, 142 the year before
Patterson struck out 142 times last year.

                  I have a question...

DO you guys look at stats at all when arguing?

As far as comparing A. Jones fielding ability to Mays, I'm not sure it's that far off. They are both famous for spectacular plays.

I read something interesting lately in a book about Hank Aaron where Eddie Matthews said he felt that Aaron was a better outfielder than Mays. He said the Braves manager always told them to run on Mays because he never hit the cutoff man.

Mays was never on ESPN every day where things like that would be noticed. Not saying it is true, because Matthews is biased, being Aaron's teammate and all. But I thought it was interesting because back then everybody's rep was based on word-of-mouth, now we get to see the great plays and the mistakes on SportsCenter.

Andruw Jones is an amazingly gifted fielder but I don't see him inventing new ways to control a ball-game like the way I've heard Mays did. Willie Mays is Willie Mays because of what he ADDED to the game. Andruw Jones hasn't added anything. At least, not yet. Personally, I don't think he will add anything. I doubt we'll see him improve. I don't think the game is in his heart the way it was in Mays'. I really don't know what to think of CP yet.

Personnally, I'd take Vernon Wells over them both.
