That isn't exactly true. Clemens Career K's/9 innings is 8.67 compared to Nolan's 9.55. Even if you are talking about single season, Clemen's best was 10.39 to Ryan's 11.48. Nolan went over 10 K's per nine innings 8 times, and Roger has only has over 10 K's per nine innings once.

I can't believe Ryan never had a Cy Young award. I mean how is that possible? they should name the award after him or make a new one. Nolan all the way

Again, if you're so sure he deserved a Cy Young than name the year he was screwed out of it. You can't, because he never was.

This debate is going nowhere, and I think that's because it boils down to a popularity contest. It's way more comforting to think of the cowboy in the white hat, Nolan Ryan, as being better than the bat tossing psycho Roger Clemens. Ryan was 'special' enough, did enough remarkable things, like the k's and no-hitter's, that it's easy to make a case for him being the best of all-time. But there's a lot more to pitching than what Nolan Ryan did, specifically I'll note Greg Maddux, and Tom Seaver, as being better models of pitching from the last 30 odd years.

Everyone needs to put there prejudices aside and see the reality of the situation. Roger Clemens was a better pitcher than Nolan Ryan. It's just fact. No one's saying you should like Clemens. I hate him as much as anyone. But fact is fact.

Problem is, he wasn't as great as most of you are making him out to be. I'll venture many who claim Ryan that much better than Clemens, barely saw Ryan pitch and just go on K's (K's are meaningless. Give me a 1 pitch groundout over a K anyday). Fact is, Ryan IS one of the more overrated pitchers in baseball history.

If he was so great as many proclaim, why is it that he wasn't that much better than the rest of his league when he pitched? I would expect a pitcher that great would have an ERA at least 1 to 1.5 runs lower than the league ERA (not the .38 that Ryan had). That is the TRUE stat of how one compares against there counterparts, not K's.
