Re: Roger better than Nolan Ryan?

It's strange how no one has mentioned the other guy on the 300/4000 list, Steve Carlton. Is this because he is a lefty?
He won a lot of games for some bad teams. Has multiple Cy Youngs, and won a World Championship. I'm a Met fan, if you did't guess by the name, and I still think Carlton was a better pitcher than Seaver or Ryan in their era.

I think you answered your question right there. Carlton doesn't get many mentions BECAUSE he played on such poor teams. I believe he once won a quarter of the Phillies total victories one year!

That's actually not that difficult of a feat to accomplish... considering there is 5 starting pitchers, statistically you are expected to win 1/5 of the wins. You win 20 games on a .500 ballclub, there you have 25% of the team's wins.

In 1972 Carlton won 27 games for a Phillies team that won a totoal of 59... that's roughly 46% I think.

Carlton, too, is better than Nolan Ryan. I apologize for his ommitance. I also apologize to Juan Marichal, Jim Palmer, Gaylord Perry, Robin Roberts and Bob Gibson, who are all also from that period and were better than Nolan Ryan.

But Tom Seaver was better than Steve Carlton. In this world of unrepentant bias I'm shocked (and somewhat impressed) that a Met fan would get on here and claim otherwise.
