I cannot stand people who treat the baseball HOF like it's damn church. Costas is one of the worst at that. It's great that people love the game, but some people take it to far with the sanctimonius BS. Life is just a little bit bigger than that.

But the reason people are forcing the Koufax comp. on him is because they know Santana doesn't have the career stats worthy of induction. I mean, dude has only 139 wins, a shade less than 2,000 Ks, and only played ~8 seasons as a starting pitcher. So, seeing that, then it becomes a debate about absolute peak performance and if Koufax is in despite a short career, why not Johan? That's the crux of the argument people are making.

There is no doubt he doesn't have the "compiled" numbers of HOF standards, so of course you have to look at the peak. Koufax is the poster boy for making the HOF off of 5 years, so the comp is a natural fit.

As a fan of 1980's era MLB, I've loved seeing Raines Trammell and Morris being inducted.
Who's the next 80's star inducted; Lou Whitaker, Tommy John, Dale Murphy, Steve Garvey, Ted Simmons, Don Mattingly, Dave Parker. or maybe someone else?

It's a shame Marvin Miller hasn't gotten in yet. THAT is the worst travesty in any hall of fame voting for any sport. I believe he's probably in the top 5 of the most influential people in MLB ever.

I think the last count I saw had Thome, Edgar, Chipper, and Vlad going in (that is, if it ended today and votes were counted)

Bonds and Clemens were at 74 and 72 percent (I believe) respectively.

Well, it doesn't matter who goes in this year...they all pale in comparison to the great Bob Costas. Costas was selected as the Ford C. Frick winner and will be inducted with this class.

I think my favorite Bob Costas moment was when he invaded Russia in 1812. Didn't end well for him, but it was certainly a bold move. Oh wait...was that Costas?

Well we definitely know who will be givng the most overwrought and long winded speech next year.

Have to applaud him for doing his part to ensure the average age of a baseball fan steadily increases every single year.

I had a thought that made me chuckle last night...according to the known data, Clemens/Bonds are pretty close this year (low 70%). How amazing would it be if they were both inducted the same year that Costas is? That would be hilarious...

Just an update...it could be a pretty large class going in next year. Check out how many players are above 75%:

                          https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=706695572

Also, Bonds/Clemens getting really, really close. Disappointed to see how low Andruw is checking in at. If he falls off the ballot I'll be pissed...

Absolutely disgusting that we are talking about Andruw Jones potentially falling off the ballot in his first year (while Vizquel's vote totals keep climbing!?). Same thing happened to Lofton...
