Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Manny Ramirez in his prime was my favorite hitter to watch in a key moment. He was such a remarkable hitter and more often than not he'd be facing a lights out closer and come through. No way I'd put him in the Sosa/McGwire tier (BTW, McGwire was a better hitter than Sosa so we really shouldn't lump the two); Manny was one of the greatest RH hitters of all time. If not for the PED stuff, he'd be in the HOF already.

Here are 3 guys who've made their ballots public and voted for Michael Young on his first ballot:

      Evan Grant
      David Maril
      TR Sullivan

Things are looking close for Mussina and Larry Walker.

TBH though there is a case to be made against every player on the ballot this year. The biggest one being Rivera. If you're not gunna vote for him, I'm not gunna get mad at you. He's a closer, we've been told for years saves don't matter, closers don't matter (2016 Indians were the clear frontrunners of that), etc.
If you can provide one link in which anti-save stathead types disparage Mariano Rivera, I'd love to see it.

The writers that don't make their ballots public tend to be overwhelmingly "old-school". Walker's sitting at 65% right now; I expect him to finish in the 50-55% range.

He's getting the biggest boost year over year in the public tracker though. With just 34.1% last year and 37.5% in the public tracker last year. He's in the mid-60s now. If he finishes over 60%, a 10th year bump next year might get him in.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

                Hof announcement comes this week.

Rivera, Halladay, Martinez and Mussina will be in, most unpredictable part will be to see if bonds or Clemens goes in.

As for a guy like Walker, I never get why people use ballpark factor in some areas and not others. Sure he played in Colorado, but half of each season is on the road, just because of Coors Field doesn't mean those stats should be almost disregarded/he should be judged only by road numbers.

Similar for pitchers. How come we don't hear that type of stuff about them? Look at Halladay and Mussina. Their numbers are great, and lets not forget where they had to pitch most of their career. AL East parks are primarily hitters ballparks, don't pitchers get some slack? And that doesn't even consider the era they were in and types of guys they had to face.

The latter two will fall short (I'll say around 65% each for both) Funny thing is, most of the HOF voters coming up for voting in the next few years were in middle school during the whole PED Era. I'm not going to judge anything but you lose some perspective when you weren't even there to know the prevailing attitudes about these things.

Oh and Edgar is definitely getting in this year too.

Probably better for younger voters because half of the older voters are either trying to hold up some bs moral standard or ignored the issue at the time and are trying to work overtime to make people forget.

It doesn't matter, but my goodness it's criminal that Halladay is going to cruise in on his first ballot and Schilling/Mussina have/continue to wait.

I agree about Mussina and I think he'll eventually get in. Schilling on the other hand is the biggest POS around. Why should he be rewarded with going to the Hall. If you're going to do that you might as well put Rose in too.

Dan Shaughnessy continues to keep up the reputation of ****ty HOF voters.

He turned his ballot in with one name marked, Mariano Rivera.

Ehh I don't mind Shaughnessy's ballot. After thinking more about it, there is a case to be made to leave every single player off the ballot this year. There is no Pedro, Griffey, Maddux. Rivera is close to them but he's not one of them.

This coming from a Red Sox fan......

Mariano is as much a lock as you can get. I can't imagine the ****storm if he doesn't get 100% of the vote.

BTW I know there's a case to be made about Mussina and I did say he'll get in but don't blame Halladay for getting votes. That seems kinda counter productive.
