Nope. I sent a similar question to a seasoned baseball writer and he told me, we will NEVER see a unanimous vote. And his reasoning was if Maddux didn't get it no one will. I would also include guys like Ruth, Aaron, Ryan, etc. not getting 100% votes. So it is nearly improbable that we will ever see a unanimous vote for a guy to get into the HOF. Also look at the guy this year that gave up 2 votes for Johnson and Martinez because he knew that both would get at least 75% votes. And he gave those votes to Alan Trammell and Larry Walker. Who, IMHO, should be in the hall of good but not the hall of fame. Same thing with Biggio. He was never a feared player like a Bonds or Clemens. He only got in because he the magical 3,000 hit plateau. Also you have writers who will not vote for a guy who is on the ballot for the first time.

Also what are everyone's thoughts on Darin Erstad and Aaron Boone getting Hall of Fame votes?

Erstad is probably the best punter of any MLB player in history. Maybe that got him a vote?

Off topic, NFL HoF Raiders punter Ray Guy was drafted, twice, by the Reds.
I would have loved to see what he could have done on the that 70's Big Cincy Machine.
On topic, I'm ecstatic Smoltzie got in. Now who's next from those great 90's Braves, Crime Dog or Chipper.

Chipper. McGriff doesn't have the numbers for me. But what about Andruw Jones?

Sadly, (for my ownselfish reasons) I don't expect McGriff or Andruw to go in, but Andruw may have the better chance. Maybe McGriff can pull a Bernie Mac Mr 3000 & attempt a comeback to get those last few homers to get to 500

Erstad gets my vote for the Hall of Grit, Scrap, and Hustle. 1st ballot.

Aaron Boone had a nice homer once for the Yankees, which probably explains any vote. Other than that....nope, no way.

Yea Erstad and Boone not even the "hall of good".
Jones I would think has a shot but it could be awhile. I see him as a Jim Rice type guy, it takes him until his final year but he gets in. 434 hr's and just over 1200 rbi's. But the average might kill him. I think it is like .258, which is not that good, obviously.

Speaking of the Boone HR, does anyone have audio of the Charlie Steiner call? Joe Bucks call was lame.

Take those bullpen numbers away (I know that sounds silly, but humor me) and they're even further apart. In any event, neither one of the two are first ballot guys (definitely not while Clemens is sitting at home twiddling his thumbs) but both deserve to be in at some point. It's crazy to me that just because one of them is a total jerk in their personal life and the other is only half a jerk, that the former only gets half the votes.
They were about 4% apart in adjusted FIP (Schilling ahead), Schilling stranded more runners, and got more whiffs (both were good). They're more or less even across the board, with Schilling coming out marginally ahead. Insanity.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

The hall is a joke, and so are the voters. The whole thing angers me every year. Glad to see the guys that got in this year, that did, but, no Bagwell and Piazza? Are you freaking kidding me? There's never been a catcher that has hit like Piazza, and to do that at such a grueling, demanding position for so long... Incredible.

I've never heard of Piazza being implicated in any steroid allegations, so it is completely despicable that he's being targeted, these writers are slime balls.

Bagwell's numbers speak for themselves, they are astounding. I'm so sick of this garbage. And please explain how a guy doesn't get in his first year, but somehow gets in the next year or another year, how the hell does that make sense. Their numbers stay the same.

I feel like it would be an honor to not be in the hall, because if Bonds,Clemens, Piazza, Bagwell, etc aren't in, then that's some pretty damn good company to be on the outside with. Rant/

There are guys that won't vote for guys if they are on the ballot for the first time also you have writers who have filled up all 10 spots on their ballot and some of those guys get in. So for example this year. You probably had guys that had a full ballot and included all 4 of the members. So next year they get 4 more players to add to their ballots. Also you have some idiots who won't vote for a guy because they already know that they have enough votes from the rest of the BBWAA. Like there was a guy that left Johnson and Pedro off of his ballot for that exact reason. He said he did it because he already knew that they would have enough votes to get in so he gave those 2 votes to other players.

BTW I'm a little bummed that Carlos Delgado got bumped out of the list after one year. I'm sure most of us here don't think he's a HOF'er (tho i'd put him in the Hall of Very Good) but for YEARS a guy with 10 straight seasons of 30 HRs or more would stick around for a few years at least.

Konerko won't get in. Neither will Billy Wagner. Thome is a probably and Pudge a big maybe given how the voters are treating the "suspected PED users" crowd.

It doesn't make sense. Delgado's numbers stack up. The only thing I can think of that kept him under 5% was people thinking he was anti-American and wouldn't salute the flag. Also, the era he played in makes his stats looked smaller by comparison. He's a tough call for me, but he deserved to stay on the ballot at least.

Of course the moron who didn't vote for Maddux last year.. Cough. Cough "Ken Gurnick" only voted for Jack Morris. Wow, and that's the Bbwa in a nutshell folks. Even more ridiculous he wasn't the only one that did that.

Oh and Eddie Guadardo was on the ballot, surprised Pedro Gomez didn't vote for him. Good god.
