"• She and Steve first slept together in a St. Louis hotel room, but he assured her that she wouldn't get pregnant because of his vasectomy.
        • How and she Steve love to text back and forth with detailed plans on how they would like to sex each other
        • An uncomfortable amount of detail about the activities of her children
        • How the Catholic Church will totally understand if the Phillips got a divorce, so that she and Steve can be together
        • She's 22 ... but not stupid!
        • A graphic description of Steve's birthmarks (on his crotch and inner thigh), just to know she's legit."

ESPN and TSN should fire him.

When you're a guy like Steve Philips you'd think you could get a better looking broad. I guess she's his crying towel. Anyways um yeah, I think Steve-O should get fired here.

So does everyone who thinks Phillips should be fired also think Letterman should be canned? Why or why not?

I think it's two totally different things. Letterman is a much bigger fish than Steve Phillips; CBS revamped its schedule around him. Phillips is easily replaceable (some would opine he never shoulda been hired in the first place), Letterman is not. Phillips will get fired just based on the fact that it's widely known that ESPN has a long list of sexual misconduct, and they can't have it known that they tolerate it, especially when you factor in his publicized history of misdeeds with the Mets. It's kinda apples and oranges, in my humble opinion.

I agree. It's just that some posters seem to be implying that Phillips should be fired for "moral" reasons, not business ones, and I don't see that Phillips has done anything worse than Letterman did, especially if this woman wasn't a direct subordinate.

As for the whole Harold Reynolds comparison that some posters are making, Harold was fired for (allegedly) continuously hitting on women that didn't want to be hit on. There's a difference between having an affair with someone at work and (alleged) sexual harassment.

If anything, I would fire Phillips for being stupid... By published accounts, his wife is a MILF, and you step out on her with THAT? I could understand if it was a one-time thing where she broke him off on the low, but this cat was telling her all his secrets about his family life, then cut her loose, like she was supposed to stay hush. What part of the pimping game is that?!? Dumb stuff like that is what got Steve McNair filled with hot ones in July.

                      Re: Oh Steve Phillips...

Coworkers hooking up is a normal regular thing. No big deal, I did it all the time. You see Steve Phillips violated the basic rules of the game. The rules arent that hard to follow:

                      1. NOT on the same floor or department: This is how rumors start. She is always at your cube and people start the email rumors and that spreads like a california wildfire. From that point, your officially on the watch list. Communication in the office has to be at a minimum.

                      2. Interns: Generally NOT a good idea. They dont really understand the game in the office so they tend to blab to people about what happened last night. If you go there, you better have that talk first.

                      3. The crazy girl: Every office has one. Their the second most dangerous in the office. They have no problem putting you on blast, because your gonna get fired not them. They may be a firecracker in the sack but it aint worth it.

                      4. The Drinker: By far the most dangerous. Stay away at all cost. The drinker will say anything at any time. The drinker has no problem telling others who she wants to sink her claws into. The drinker will also do anything at any time. The drinker grabbed my crotch at a christmas party. As much as I wanted to, I could not do it. Why? because if I did, I knew I had a date with HR about it in the morning.
I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....

That was my very first thought after reading the article. That and what she looked like, of course.

ESPN set a precedent. I have no idea what precedent has been set @ CBS. Its not a matter of immorality. ESPN has had a long history of incidents w/sexual harrasment. And they were suppossed to be having a strong hand against such things. Reynolds was fired after, in his words, a hug was misinterpeted. It was reportedly a "pattern" of sexual harrassment.

I would think that if a hug was a firing offense, then sex on the road from an employee w/a documented history of such behavior would merit termination.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

If Steve Phillips is fired, I doubt ESPN's ratings would take a hit. The same couldn't be said about Letterman.

Both deserve the public scorn they have received though. It's much harder to respect people that cheat on their partners (it's even worse when they are married and have kids).

In Steve Phillips case, I don't know what was going through his mind. I'm sure he was smart enough to realize if he had an affair with an intern he would damage his career and family and yet he still did it.

Not trying to sound too naive here, but other than Phillips' history with the Mets, is there any evidence that this particular case constitutes sexual harrassment? More than one female employee complained about Harold hitting on them. If this intern didn't complain and engaged in the affair (or who knows, even instigated it) with Phillips, is this sexual harassment? Without hearing more details, I'd say no.

I'd say "could" rather than "would". I'm guessing a lot of these affairs go on without career or family even being affected. How many affairs did Letterman have before one blew up in his face? Phillips gambled and lost.
