why are their few blacks in MLB??????????
a question that no one wants to talk about. but in my opinion MLB does a horrible job selling themselves to the black community. MLB puts more money outside the usa than they do inside the usa. they are quick to sell their business to puerto rico, but forget about the inner cities here in the usa.

Re: why are their few blacks in MLB??????????
I dont really sweat it. Most of the Black players in the league are really good. If memory serves my correctly, the Cardinals have ONE black person on their team, Kerry Robinson. Granted, their in STL, but still.
Being black, most of my favorite players are black. Jimmy Rollins, Christian Guzman, Torii Hunter, Dave Roberts, Dontrelle Willis, Corey Patterson and Mark McLemore are all very good players.-Jay Illestrate, Emcee/Producer/Graphic Artist

Re: why are their few blacks in MLB??????????
There was actually an excellent article on this subject on ESPN.com a month or so ago. One of the reasons they gave was MLB's failure to market to young blacks. Another was the fact that the resources needed to play baseball (diamond, etc.) weren't as readily available in inner cities, as opposed to say, the resources needed for basketball (courts, etc.). I don't know if I buy that because it's not like you need a regulation diamond to play a pickup game. I think part of it is marketing, or lack thereof, on the part of the MLB. Hand-in-hand with that is that baseball is just not seen as the "in" sport it once was back in the day. Kids, white and black, tend to gravitate and play what's cool and what they like to watch. If you look at it, there are more Latino and Asian players today than ever because the sport is more popular among youth in in those areas than in the U.S.Comment
