It means making the game of baseball more available to Black people from inner cities in the United States.

            <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
How? Inner city neighborhoods by their very definition don't have vast amounts of green space to place a baseball field on. This is probably the #1 reason why inner city kids are more drawn to basketball than to baseball -- it's a lot easier to find a paved area and put up a hoop than it is to find a large field to put a baseball diamond on.

Plus, you already said "we don't watch baseball much anyway" so whose fault is that? It's not like baseball should or could go door to door to black houses and say "hey, there's this really cool game out there called baseball, you should give it a shot!"

Besides, as someone has already pointed out, if there were an equal representation of blacks to whites in baseball, you'd actually have a severe slant towards the black community based on the overall demographics of the US.

Personally, a guy on my team could have green skin for all I cared, as long as he was a good ball player (could block a plate better than Jason Kendall, for example).

I did say that we don't watch baseball much anyway as a whole but that wasn't always the case. I used to play baseball and most of my friends and non-friends who used to play couldn't care less about it right now. The people who watch baseballs are becoming older and older and if the game doesn't want to die it has to market it to the younger demographic, and part of it is the Black community. African-Americans constitute a large number of athletes considering the % of the population in the US. The game would become much better talent wise if more Black people played baseball. Plus, there is a lot of us who play football and/or basketball while believing that we can make it professionally. If some of these athletes had played baseball, they might have made it to the big leagues.

A better talent pool equals a better league thus future major revenue. Look at what the flow of Europeans has done to the NBA. This year there are so many American players who should have been drafted as a result of a bigger talent pool. In the near future it's gonna help the NBA tremendously.
Anyway I believe that Bud Selig doesn't care at all since Latins in general love the sport of baseball and have created many stars. The Latin demographic has surpassed the Black demographic recently so he's like [censored you naughty boy] it.
