Re: Are you a fan of Homerun posing?

Apparently Joe Torre aint a fan of the excessive homerun admiration society that permeates baseball these days.

from ESPN: Young star caught admiring own homer

The young star hit a tying two-run homer in the sixth inning of Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Indians and watched from home plate before starting his trot.

Yankees manager Joe Torre spoke to Soriano about that in the dugout.

"You want him to set a good example for his teammates," Torre said before Friday night's game. "This stuff will come back to haunt you."

Interesting about Joe Torre. I don't mind looking at the HR in a situation like that. I DO mind the crap that Sosa and some others do. Baseball isn't what it used to be in terms of popularity. You need a little sizzle. I mean you have to show some life out there. It'd be mighty boring to watch a guy hit a game tying HR and just do his trot and go in the dugout.

I am a big fan of the HR pose... just as long as it as you aren't trying to brag. And if you don't hit many HRs, you have no right whats so ever to make any sort of pose or trot. Guys like Griffey, Bonds, and Sosa can make HR poses because they have the numbers to back it up. I'm not really sure of Boone's bat flip though... I think it is very creative, but he doesn't hit enough HRs to have a entire show when he hits a HR.

I think Soriano and Pujols need to play a few more years before they can start making their own poses. You are getting off on the wrong foot if you can think you can start posing your first couple of years in the league.

I can't stand it. If you hit a home run, you run. It's pretty easy. Now, if it is a very important game, it's okay to show some emotion. Jump up and down, give the first base coach a big high five, or something. However, if it is a big game and you hit a home run and just stand there and watch it, you have crossed the line.

One guy who is by far the worst is Bret Boone. It has gotten to the point where it isn't even home runs he flips his bat for. I have seen him do it twice and the ball bounced off the wall, and once where it was a pop fly to center, about 50 feet from the wall.

a little pose is okay for me, but if you're just staring at your moonshot for more than 5 seconds, please. You deserve to get plunked if you do that.

A little pose doesn't bother me but if it's a 15-3 game and you stand there watching it for 10 seconds that's pretty annoing. But if you just hit the a walk off homer in game seven of the world series then you something to pose at.
