Re: 2010 Spring Training Discussion Thread
This is somewhat-related to Spring Training in a way that it involves non-roster invitees, however, if you are familiar with Maestro Murphy, apparently the Padres have his cousin on the roster:

Re: 2010 Spring Training Discussion Thread
Jeffery Loria expects the Marlins to make it to the playoffs this season: https://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/sprin...ory?id=4941647.
The Marlins are always an interesting team to watch because they have had success in the post-season in both trips but overcoming a stacked team in Philly and some potentialy strong teams competing for the Wild Card is no easy task. Is Loria, the cheapest(worst?) owner in Baseball willing to open the wallet in july and get the Marlins help if the team is in fact making a run at the playoffs?. I guess we'll have to wait and see.Comment

Russell Branyan is officially a Cleveland Indian, which is good.
I'm really excited to see the Cleveland offense. A healthy Sizemore, Choo, Branyan, Laporta, Peralta, Droobs...they are going to put up some runs.Too Old To Game Club

It depends on how much his shoulder can take.
When his shoulder is healthy/not tired, he returned close to old Pronk last year. They and he are saying that his shoulder is 100% healthy now and he has no restrictions.
I know one thing, if he is healthy for the whole year, that just adds another bat which would be...insane.Too Old To Game Club

Re: 2010 Spring Training Discussion Thread
Disagree. They did not need another left-handed hitter. They did not need another strikeout prone hitter. They did not need to take away major league at-bats from LaPorta and/or Brantley. Why say you're going with young guys then sign a journeyman that's taking playing time away from your top prospects? I'm really concerned with how this franchise is operating.Comment

Strikeouts are an out, I don't see the benefit of striking out less if it results in another out. I'd like to see him get more hits, sure, but his power likely produces those K's. I don't have a problem with it.
LaPorta, as has been confirmed by Acta, will be the everyday LF'er this year. I cannot complain about Brantley getting more time in AAA since his stunning .707 OPS he put up last year. He's only 23, another year in AAA is probably a good thing.Too Old To Game Club

In other news I think Cito Gaston has gone into senility. The man is afraid to move Vernon Wells out of the cleanup spot because he's afraid it'll hurt his confidence. He also has a crazy notion that if Lind and Hill end up switching to the 3 and 4 slot he'll experiment with Alex Gonzalez batting 2nd.
OYE
Oh and he sees Brian Tallet as a starter......
He worked okay for a time but he's best suited as a reliever "sigh"
