    2010 Spring Training Discussion Thread

Since today is the first day pitchers and catchers report....I figured we can get a general Spring Training discussion thread going.

I'll kick it off by two of the most beautiful, inspiring, and true quotes---

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.
Of course, there are those who learn after the first few times. They grow out of sports. And there are others who were born with the wisdom to know that nothing lasts. These are the truly tough among us, the ones who can live without illusion, or without even the hope of illusion. I am not that grown-up or up-to-date. I am a simpler creature, tied to more primitive patterns and cycles. I need to think something lasts forever, and it might as well be that state of being that is a game; it might as well be that, in a green field, in the sun.
Both quotes from the late, great, Bart Giamatti.

Good news followed by great quotes. I've been waiting for this thread all winter.
    NFL:Packers
    MLB:Reds/Tigers
    NHL:Red Wings
    NCAA:Michigan Wolverines.
    F-1: Ferrari.

It's been a while OS. Hope all are doing well!

Dates that teams report. My Braves are on the 19th, but all eyes are on the Jair Jurrjens MRI results for his shoulder.

Sad that he was also a true fan of the game. unlike Fay and Selig that came after..

I must have missed that they cloned Greinke 5 times.

You must have missed the huge four team trade earlier today. Felix, Timmy, and Chris Carpenter to the Royals for Alberto Callaspo, David DeJesus, Alex Gordon, Yuniesky Betancourt, Jose Guillen, and Sluggerrr.

I'm not sure why the Cards wanted Sluggerrr. I guess they were jealous and were willing to give up whatever they needed to get him.

The Jays are staring 100 loses in a season for the first time in 31 years and ALREADY we got bad news as Scott Richmond injured his shoulder gearing up for ST. I'm hoping it's nothing serious but at least AA signed a boat load of pitchers so it might not be THAT bad.

The Jays report on the 22nd.

Sorry but the White Sox don't report until Sunday, and that isn't sarcasm.

Richmond already injured, McGowan and Marcum trying to comeback from injuries, and Jesse Litsch not likely to pitch until at least june make it all the more likely the Jays will rush Kyle Drabek to the majors. Especially if Roy Halladay is rattling off win after win in Philadelphia.
