Re: 2010 Spring Training Discussion Thread

Heard great things about Drabek's first action as a Blue Jay yesterday. Hopefully that's the start of what will be a long career in a Jays uniform for him. It's amazing how the fans have taken to this team this spring. Intellectually I think everyone knows this team will stink but there's an air of optimism and genuine interest.

This is probably because JP Ricciardi is gone. The guy always held our fanbase with a fair bit of contempt and made it known that he thought he knows more about baseball then the entire fanbase put together. That's not the best way to curry favor especially when towards the end of his tenure he was making very questionable moves and popping off to the media. It's almost like a cancerous growth has been removed and the fans are now able to you know, actually care about their team without having their heads bitten off.

And so it begins again for the Mets, Jose Reyes is out for 2-8 weeks with a overactive thyroid.

It's odd that it's taking the Mets so long to treat this. I have a bit of a thyroid condition myself as I take pills every day for it. One would think that if his condition is a bit worse that they'd find proper medication sooner then later.

Didn't he have issues with his thyroid since last year?

Not too sure on that, but according to the Mets Brass eating too much shellfish is what caused the problem. The only problem he had last year, that I know of, is his hamstring.

Seven innings, 10 strikeouts, 2 walks. They're already making noise in Cincinnati about Aroldis Chapman starting the season with the big boys. Handing Dusty Baker a live, young arm like Chapman's is akin to hiring a pedophile to teach kindergarden, it's just doomed to be a disaster.

AAA please, and hopefully he doesn't wreck Mike Leake's career as well.

Travis Snider is a bit of an enigma but a lot of people up here are hoping the light turns on for him this season. He did hit two HRs against Baltimore so that was a good thing. It looks like the competition for the Jays 1st starter is all but decided but Ricky Romero is making it awfully tough not to go with him.

Right now Shaun "North of Steeles" (Steeles is a street in Toronto and honestly I don't know how he got that nickname but I like it) Marcum is penciled in as the #1.

                      Strasburg's total pitching line for the spring: 9 ip, 8 h, 2 er, 1 bb, 12 k. 149 pitches, 97 strikes, 14 groundouts-1 Flyout (popup).

Saw the guy pitch last night. Absolutely electric.

I guess he's going to head north then?

Anyways the pitching for the Jays wasn't so hot today but Aaron Hill was VERY hot. The guy is definitely in the prime of his career. I only hope the Jays will become good before his skills fall off.

Strasburg & Drew Storen were both sent to the minors today. Good move IMO, they'll be back by up July.

Pretty much. Both will be in the majors this year, barring injury.

This has been something that I never understood. If they're going to be in the majors this year anyways, why not start them there?

Bad choice of words, but I knew what he meant. And he is right. They are not African American players. I think that is what he is meaning. African Americans are not playing as much youth ball as they did before. It seems like football and basketball is taking over. At least it is in my home town Richmond CA. They don't have too many little baseball going on, but still have a good youth basketball and football team going on.

Any way I like the way the Giants are playing their bull pen should be lights out this year and the starting pitching will be good too. And the Huff is good hitter, so I like our chances.
