    May 17th - 23rd Discussion

I can't believe there hasn't been more pub given to Phil Hughes, especially since he's a Yankee:

    5-0 record (T-1st in AL)
    1.38 ERA (1st in AL)
    0.92 WHIP (1st in AL)
    .165 BAA
    2.78 K/BB ratio

Granted, he's been given a ton of run support (12 runs, 10 runs & 8 runs respectively his past 3) but he's given up only 2 ERs in that span as well and averaging at least 7 innings per.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Guess Hughes is finally living up to the hype eh?

Was just looking at the standings....how bout the Jays, 7 games over .500, and only 4 gms out of 1st.

A good test for the Jays to start the week against the Twinkies. It's kinda obvious they're kind of a middle tier team but they beat the West leaders so maybe they'll have success against the Twins.

One year ago tomorrow, 27-14, 1st place, 3.5 games up.

Then proceeded to lose 9 consecutive games.

Yes but at least this year's team is making steady progress. They haven't really outperformed too much and while the offense is not as balanced as it should be right now there's a good mix of pitching and offense that is keeping the team afloat.

I expect they'll drop to earth a bit but it's not gonna be a nosedive like last year.

I think this may apply more to the Padres, heck, they're 1/3rd of the way of the losing streak to match that!

10 games against division rivals and a 3-3 record to show for it, need to come away with 3 wins or whatever, even then I'm disappointed if they go 6-4.

that run supports a bit deceiving... that 12 run game was a 2-0 game through 5 of Hughes 7 innings (Yankees scored 3 in the bottom of the 5th to start the big scoring). The 10 run game was in Boston against Beckett (aka a big game) where again Hughes again threw 5 of his 7 innings in a tight game (0-0 threw 3, 3-1 through 5) before the Yankees again blew up for a bunch. And the 8-0 game was a 2-0 game when Hughes came out after 7, and the yankees went on to score 6 in the 9th

so out of those 21 innings, 17 were meaningful innings where the game was really close. And the Yankees just happened to pour it on after that when Hughes had just about been done for the day.

definitely a bit deceiving looking at the numbers. Just seeing the runs scored it looks like he's just been cruising with nice big leads, but that has hardly been the case

Ortiz is trying to tie it up when down five and no one is on base.

EDIT: Well, at least he still got one in on that swing.

It's impossible to watch the Indians game. First they stayed with the CF camera way too long even though it was shaking like St. Petersburg was having an earthquake. Then they went with the minor league style press box shot. Now they're using the strikeout-replay camera from CF

EDIT: Ok, the fixed the main one so its bearable now

What? The Phillies could only put 12 up on the Pirates? and they think they're a contender. meh.
