    Re: Albert Belle

Puckett got in because he was loved by the media and since his career was shortened by the eye problem, people looked at what he did in his shortened career.

Belles numbers for the amount of time he played are pretty impressive, injuries ended his career, not lack of production, same with Puckett and Tony Oliva, but Puckett was the most popular of these guys so he got in. It will be interesting to me there was a 5 year stretch that Belle was the most dangerous hitter in baseball. I am not sure if that qualifies him as an HOFer, but you shouldn't disqualify him just cause you don't like him,

Albert Belle a Hall Of Famer? He wasn't even a top 5 player when he played. Had a poor attitude, lousy work ethic so someone please explain to me how he would even be considered for the hall of fame.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Dimaggio only played for 12 years also.

I think two things make Puckett much better than Belle.
                  1. Gold Gloves- there were several
                  2. Championships- team leader and favorite

Don't forget that defense is just as big a part of the game as offense.

I could honestly make cases both FOR and AGAINST Belle getting into the Hall.... thing about Belle is he was an RBI machine for several years, and he also had the ability to hit 50 homers and 50 doubles. Which, at the time, was a big deal... actually i think it's still impressive.

oh, he was definitely one of the most feared sluggers in the AL during the early and mid 90's.
but the things against him are huge.
                              - he was a 'bad guy' during the time baseball was trying to recover from the strike
                              - then he got busted corking a bat
                              - then he couldn't play out his contract, not his fault but you know how people are.

granted he did partialy redeem himself by plowing into Fernando Vina.
