Worst and Best Trade Moves of the 2000's

There were many trading blunders in the 2000's but on the flip side, one team's blunder is another team's success.

Cleveland trading C.C. was a major blunder but for the Yanks it was a match made in heaven.

The Yanks getting rid of Randy Johnson in exchange for Luis Viscaino and 3 minor league players was a great move considering Randy's mediocre performance in the Bronx, but it began with a bad deal with the D-Backs.

My personal favorite is the trade of Manny Ramirez for Jason Bay. Oh, the Red Sox really came out in good shape. Jason Bay pushed out favorable stats but so did Manny in L.A. but in the long run Jason Bay has been more productive than Manny in L.A. . I hate that the Red Sox came out ahead in this deal considering I'm a Yankee Fan.
    MLB-NY Yankees
    NBA-Miami Heat
    NCAA-UM Canes, FIU Golden Panthers
    NFL- NY Giants
    NHL- NY Rangers

For worst trade I nominate the Tigers trade for Juan Gonzalez.

EDIT: My mistake, that happened in November '99, just missing the 2000s... So I'll go in the other direction and say the Tigers trade for Miguel Cabrera.

I think the Texeria trade for Texas to Atlanta turned out really good for us
      MLB: Texas Rangers
      Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
      NCAA: SMU, UTA
      NFL: Dallas Cowboys
      NHL: Dallas Stars
      NBA: Dallas Mavericks

Worst: The Expos trade Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore, and Brandon Phillips to the Indians for half a season of Bartolo Colon.

Wow, I overlooked that one. That is probably the worst trade.

            Best:
Red Sox trading Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez to the Marlins for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. One of the few trades that actually works out for everyone involved. Marlins get a franchise player in Ramirez and a no-hitter out of Sanchez, Sox get another championship without having to wait 86 years.

Red Sox trading Casey Fossum Brandon Lyon Jorge De La Rosa and Michael Goss to the Diamondbacks for Curt Schilling. Who knows if the Sox break the curse in '04 without chilling and the bloody sock.

            Worst:
Twins trading Johan Santana to the Mets for Phillip Humber Kevin Mulvey Deolis Guerra and Carlos Gomez. Only Guerra remains in the Twins orginization while the other 3 were basically duds. The saving grace for the Twins here is they have more postseason appearences without Santana than the Mets do with him.

A's trading Andre Either to the Dodgers for Milton Bradley. Trading any prospects for Milton Bradley will probably get ypu on a "worst" list

I'm sure there are more but that is all i can think of at the moment.

I would have to say the Ken Griffey Junior deal it happened in the offseason going into 2000 so i am considering it the worst trade move of the 2000's. Griffey was traded to the Reds For Mike Cameron Brett Tomko Antonio Perez
and Jake Meyer. I understand that the trade was intitated by Junior but at this point in time Griffey was at a pace to demolish Aaron's Home run record and was still the prime example for a five tool player considering how fast he was on the base paths and his freakish range in the outfield. I think the Mariners could have recieved a bit more in terms of prospects but no matter what Seattle was getting ripped off in this deal by loosing (at the time) Baseball's Greatest Player

The only thing bad about that trade was the contract extension given to Dontrelle Willis after the trade. None of the players the Marlins got have done much of anything at the big league level and the Tigers even brought Rabelo back (though they recently released him).

                  I don't think so.

Manny Ramirez OPS+ in LA: 171
Jason Bay OPS+ in Boston: 132

Manny Ramirez WAR in LA: 7.9
Jason Bay WAR in Boston: 5.6

LA was the clear winner of that trade. They got one of the best hitters in the game at a small price.

I begins and ends with Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton to the Cubs from the Pirates for Matt Bruback, Jose Hernandez, and Bobby Hill.

The Cubs finally had their third baseman.

Cleveland traded CC to the Brewers. He then signed with New York via free agency.

Damn that year was fun. I miss CC.

Wrong. Manny Ramirez played only 104 games in his second season while Jason Bay played 153. Also, although Jason Bay is with the NYM now, overall games played Jason bay played more games. And Manny recently stated he will be leaving L.A. this year... His play was good at best. Where it was expected to be spectacular.

Boston was the CLEAR winner of that trade.

Carlos Beltran trade for the Royals. Mike Wood, Mark Teahen, John Buck.

Jermaine Dye for Neifi Perez. Another gem by the Royals.
