Re: Red Sox are a joke

I guess it sound strange to like a team only because of its colors, and now that I think about it I do like them because they're a decent team and becuase of their running back. I think the colors of a team way more on the negative than the positive. If the colors are cool looking but the team is bad, I won't like them. If they're a good team (IE: Yankees) but their colors suck, I won't enjoy watching them.

At least we got this issue cleared up.

You know what the Red Sox need to help them over this hump? A coach like Piniella. Grady Little is too afraid to offend his players and he really doesnt do much in terms of motivation. The red sox need a coach who will bust their asses and make them play hard, especially at this time of year. If you have watched the Devil Rays lately they have been HOT. The team struggles through each game and almost all of their games after the all star break have been close. I'm almost sure they have a better record than the sox after the all star break, if not then definetly better in August. Watch out for Tampa Bay next year guys, Piniella makes all the difference.

And you know what else leads to this collapse? The sox cant play small ball. Everyone out there except for maybe Damon, Mueller and Kapler go for the long ball. I want you guys to count how many fly ball outs we get next game and you will see.

dude, you're way off base, and being way too simplistic. The Sox don't need motivation, they need pitching. The only 2 guys on this team that don't play hard every day are Manny and Pedro. They sat Manny last year when he didn't run out the ball, and that's all u can do. Guys like Pedro...Pinella would be the WORST POSSIBLE manager for. Pedro refuses to give effort if he feels he's disrespected, and anyone who yells at him, in his opinion, is disrespecting him. They yelled at him for missing the team pic last night, and tonight he comes up with a "flu."

As for the guys you picked on, Mueller leads the team in one of Theo's favorite stats, "productive outs". Also, in a park like Fenway where you're gonna play high scoring games, small ball is a bad approach. You can play small ball in a place like Oakland, St. Louis, Detroit or Seattle, big parks, but you won't win playing that way in Fenway, Yankee Stadium, Coors, places where a lot of runs are scored.

Ok, but you cant go for freakin homeruns every time. This team has become dependant on the home run, with a few exceptions. You need to be able to play small ball in CERTAIN SITUATIONS.

Pitching explains 17 runners left on base? No it doesnt. You need some strategy, and you need the coaches to help the players and give advice. Grady is just a dumb idiot who cant coach for his life.

Our pitching coaches are terrible as well. Ok, so we dont have the best staff, but our bull pen is very good. Kim was great in Arizona, Saurbeck was great in pittsburg, Williamson was awesome in Cincinatti, Embree is pretty good (especially against lefties), Jones is decent, and the rest are good enough. The bull pen is definetly above average. What does that tell you? We need new pitching coaches. Guys who can instruct these players and make them better. If we had a guy like Leo Mazzone from Atlanta, you can bet your *** Derek Lowe would be pitching a lot better this year. The guy has nasty stuff, he just needs a little instruction.

If we got one more good starter and a new coaching staff, this team would be twice as good.

coaching doesn't have much affect in baseball at all. All the guys you just mentioned (with the exception of Jones, who was so bad the ROCKIES let him go) came from small markets and are suddenly thrust into the race. BIG adjustment.

Lowe was a Cy Young candidate under a similar coaching staff and the same manager this year. Wallace is regarded highly, and Cloninger, who they still have contact with, is one of the best.

As for leaving men on base, no, Nomar doesn't need advice. He just didn't get it done. Manny struck out late in the game, and that wasn't Ron Jackson's fault. Many major league hitters have personal hitting instructors and don't even talk to the team's coach.

We're finding out the results of what we already knew, the sox got guys who had never done it in big games in the pen (need I bring up Kim's 2001 series?) or had never been there, and that hitting comes and goes in cycles, unless you're a special player like Bonds.
