I'm not. I wanted to see them blow it all, and be sitting at home starting tomorrow. Oh well...

I'm really not scared by any NL team, and fully expect Philadelphia to be in their 3rd straight World Series...vs the Rangers.

Hopefully what Jonathan Sanchez and Tim Hudson did yesterday sends a message to all NL pitchers that your spot in the order appears just as many times as any other, meaning it matters just as much to the importance of the game's outcome. You're not an automatic out, and even if you tend to be that doesn't mean you can't be productive.

I really hope that someday we get better hitting pitchers. What both pitchers did offensively yesterday allowed them to win their respective games.

Blzer think about this for a minute. Pitchers have to work on their pitching, so they will never never work on their hitting that much. They need all the time to get their mechanics down. The pitchers that can hit good are ones that are naturals or ones that hit in college. Pitchers will never work on their swing, that it just the way it goes. And I rather have Sanchez work on his pitching when he has some extra time to work on his swing instead. You have to work on your swing a lot to be a real good hitting pitcher. They only see about 8 plate appearance a week if they are lucky. Therefore that would take time away for what you are truly there for and that is to pitch and when they do take time to practice hitting it is only for bunting.

Irrelevant. Fielders work on fielding all of the time, as well as base running and everything else. I'm not saying they should be as good as regular hitters, but they shouldn't be deemed automatic outs or a complete shock if they actually put the bat on the ball.

I already made a thread about this once, but most good pitchers were at one point good hitters or at least looked like they knew how to hold a bat, let alone which side of the bat was good to hit with. And if Zito or Sanchez are going to walk the amount of people they do then they aren't focusing on pitching as much as they probably should be. Remember, they don't do many bullpen sessions on their off-days. Maybe they should be hitting then.

I disagree Pitching is harder than hitting and fielding. You have to work on that a lot. And also when they are on their off day they need to be resting their arms. There is a reason why pitchers don't practice on hitting, because it would not be the best thing for them in the run.

I was being sarcastic with fielders who work on other things, but I know that you wouldn't be in the same boat if Sanchez's hit didn't happen and the Giants didn't win. Hell, remember when Ramirez homered off Romo and you said "It's just a game"? What if that game decided the Giants' chance at making the playoffs? Now it's not "just a game".

I used to think like you a long time ago, but then I realized it would be too hard for a pitcher to be working on hitting and pitching.

Actually, it wouldn't. Well, it might be heavily demanding, but in all it is important to be able and do both. As a hitting coach, I can think of dozens of hours of activities one can do in a given week to improve your hitting that does not involve working your pitching arm... or in fact, some that aren't even physical.

Yeah that is not going to happen Blzer Pitcher will work more on bunting more than hitting. It is what it is.

I can promise you he doesn't get a lot of time to work on his swing. He is just an athlete.

And might I remind you that bunting is also an aspect of hitting, something which many pitchers are not very good at as well.

But trust me they practice a lot on it. Especially in spring training.

All the more reason for them to be much better at it than they are, as well as having a trained batter's eye.
