Halladay's Stats in his 10 starts vs. R.Sox/Yanks:

    IP 70.2 W-L: 4-4 ERA: 4.61

Explain to me why I should be impressed.

He's not saying you should be impressed...he's sayong that Halladay has had more starts against harder teams and that it should be taken into account when comparing him to Loaiza who has only had two against the Sox and Yanks (probably the best two teams in the AL).

Yeah it's not Loaiza's fault that he gets to pitch again the Tigers instead of the Red Sox like Halladay. How Loaiza is doing it this year I have no idea. I can't believe throwing a cutter turns you from a 5.00 era guy to a Cy Young candidate...

                        Re: One stat for Halladay...

The funny thing is that if the winner of the CY YOUNG was about the Most Valuable Pitcher then you know Halladay would win. But it isn't. It's about statistics, which is why Loaiza is the man.

But I keep tripping on that ERA difference. How easy is it to keep an ERA down in the 2s when you get 10 starts against BOS/NYY. Yeah, Loaiza got them both in his only start, but YOU KNOW if he had to go out there 4 more times against each team that both the Yanks and Sox would beat his *** a few times in there. That's just undeniable.

On the flip-side of that, Loaiza has had 5 starts against Detroit, and has thrown almost 40 innings with an ERA of 1.23. But the crazy thing is he lost two of those starts 1-0. He could easily be 19 and 4 right now.

It's a difficult decision. Very debatable. We'll see how September pans out.

I agree that the CY should go to the best pitcher, but that's usually not how it works. Look it up, the only times it has gone to guys who weren't at least in races in Sept. were when guys just had off the charts years (Like Clemens in Toronto when he won pitching triple crowns). Doc's going to lose a lot of votes because he's pitching in meaningless games, making his job easier. I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying it's how the voting tends to work.
